UK shoegaze outfit Ride is set to return on March 29th with their new album, Interplay. Today, they’ve unveiled a new preview of the album in the form of “Last Frontier.” They’ve also announced dates for a supporting international tour that includes shows in North America this spring.
Interplay marks Ride’s first album in five years and their third effort since the quartet’s 2015 reunion. In a statement, frontman Andy Bell said that the band’s latest single, “Last Frontier,” was initially “the runt of the litter of the very first jam session… It was our producer, Richie Kennedy, who saw the potential of the song, and we attacked this with a vengeance at Vada studio. A complete revamp of the backing track and arrangement was needed and we took it right back to basics, more towards a pounding Joy Division feel.”
“For the topline, I tried improvising at the mic, singing it all different ways, and coming up with new parts on the spot,” Bell explained. “I felt really exposed but kind of said to myself, ‘you’re among friends, it’s good to push yourself to try new ways to write.’ It feels different to every vocal I’ve ever done. It’s still a new way of working for me but it’s something I want to continue trying as I think it makes for better vocal lines; a good mixture of written and improvised.”
As for Ride’s upcoming tour, they’ll kick off a 10-date North American leg beginning in Boston on May 11th, with additional shows scheduled in Montreal, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, Denver, and Seattle. A UK run of shows will follow in September.
Tickets to Ride’s upcoming tour dates will go on sale beginning Friday, February 16th via Ticketmaster. Once tickets are on sale, fans can look for deals or get tickets to sold-out shows via StubHub, where orders are 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s FanProtect program.
