Kurt Vile has announced a new EP called Back to Moon Beach, out November 17th via Verve. Along with its lead single “Another good year for the roses,” the singer-songwriter has also mapped out a run of North American tour dates for 2024.
Though Back to Moon Beach is an EP by name, it would be a proper LP for most other artists, clocking in at nearly an hour long and nine tracks. In a press release, Vile himself says it’s more like a “KV comp,” adding: “The first 6 tracks — which are the ones that fit on a single LP — are new to the world, with one foot in the not-too-distant past and the other with one tiny toe pointing toward the future. Together my feet are like a couple spanning time together.”
“Another good year for the roses” is Back to Moon Beach’s opening track, and Vile began writing it way back in 2019 — when the world was much, much different. Co-produced with Cate Le Bon, who also features on the song along with Stella Mozgawa, the mid-tempo tune as an intentionally lackadaisical feel. “I’m not one quite ready to put it better in a letter/ Which reminds me, one day I’ll sit down and write me a letter,” Vile drawls over a plodding piano and guitar. Pre-orders for Back to Moon Beach EP are ongoing.
After one last 2023 show in Pennsylvania next month, Vile’s tour dates resume in Baltimore in March, hitting cities including Atlanta, New Orleans, Little Rock, Atlanta, and more, before wrapping up in Athens, Georgia at the end of the month. Tickets are on sale Friday, October 27th at 10:00 a.m. local time at his website.
