30 Days of SRK 15: 15 Book and Movie and TV Characters I Want Him to Play

I made it halfway through the month without a fanfic-y post! Go me! I love fanfic-y posts, but I think they are probably more fun for me to write than for you to read. (I originally wrote “fanfic-y pots” and I almost left it because I like the idea of fanfic pots). This post also was much longer than I realized, thus being a day late to post!

Van Helsing (Dracula)

I love love love the novel Dracula, and in the novel Dracula-the-character is disgusting. Which is part of why I love it, he is a rapist and a gross gross man who no one wants to spend time with and is deeply unpleasant. So, NOT a good SRK part. But Van Helsing is charming. He’s a generation above all the other characters, and he is wise and kind and empathetic to their struggles and also can see the darkness and sorrow that the others can’t yet conceive because they are too young to experience it. Perfect SRK part!

Scarlet Pimpernel (Scarlet Pimpernel)

Coincidentally, the very book we all are reading! This would be a great SRK part, very similar to Don. He gets to play a charming kind rich doofus, and also a brilliant master of disguise. Bonus, he can do all kinds of character bits while being “in disguise”. Oh, and the heroine role would be perfect for Madhuri, so that’s cool too.

Professor Bhaer (Little Women)

I think we would all be very happy if Jo ended up with a Professor Bhaer played by Shahrukh! Perfect Deepika-SRK or Anushka-SRK pairing.

Mr. Rochester (Jane Eyre)

Older, not traditionally handsome, sardonic wit, soooooooooooo sexy. Perfect for SRK. Not sure who would play Jane though.

Captain Wentworth (Persuasion)

Hard to read, been through a lot, but ultimately extremely kind and with a deep passionate inner life. Also, perfect SRK-Juhi relationship.

Atticus Finch (To Kill a Mockingbird)

What I find most interesting about this character is the contrast between his public life and his life as a father. He is a reserved intelligent solitary person, but because he is a single parent, he manages to find a softness and security in how he treats his children which is at odds with the rest of his personality. I’d love to see SRK play that, an unexpected father being a parent in an unexpected way.

George Bailey (It’s a Wonderful Life)

Heartwarming holiday classic, blah blah blah. But the part that surprises me when I watch it is how ANGRY George Bailey is at the opening. He is a bitter angry scary person who hides that under a happy surface. Not a bad person, more that he is trying so hard to be good all the time that his human selfish feelings just grow and grow on the inside. Anyway, SRK would be great in this role, the “perfect” husband and father who is secretly angry and miserable.

Leon (Ninotchka)

Love this plot. Strict uptight female supervisor comes to check on her overseas subordinates. They have gone completely “native” and instead of working hard and being series, are just enjoying the emigre lifestyle. In order to get her to file a favorable report, they hire Leon, a sophisticated local, to romance her and convert her to enjoyment as well. SRK would be GREAT as a sophisticated not-quite-gigolo who is doing his best to loosen up a difficult woman and ultimately falls in love with her.

Ninotchka (Ninotchka)

Same plot as above! Only, flip the genders. SRK is the uptight supervisor come to check on the overseas workers. And Deepika or someone is the local hired to get him to loosen up.

Sam Vimes (Discworld Books)

One of y’all suggested this, can’t remember who, but it is SO PERFECT. Middle aged, smart, brave, cynical, and deeply moral. It’s just perfect.

Captain Picard (Star Trek TNG)

Intelligent, experienced, calm under pressure, charming when he lets himself be charming, and deeply charismatic. I think SRK could nail this.

Lou Grant (Mary Tyler Moore Show)

Irascible ethical and terrifying boss of ambitious young woman Mary Richards. Their dynamic is very much the heart of the show, and I think SRK could manage the tricky balance of having a relationship with a young woman that is deep and real and meaningful, but NOT romantic (there was that one episode where they tried to date, but it was horrible).

Walter Skinner (The X-Files)

Supposed to be a mild supporting character, slowly took over the show. Bureaucrat in the middle of his career who suddenly gets tired of all the lies and mysteries and starts providing cover for his underlings on their crazy crusade for The Truth.

Batman (Batman)

Secretly tormented, publicly happy, and always ready to fight for the underdog. Also, looks good in black.

James Bond (Bond Series)

Smooth, sophisticated, but also occasionally traumatized and patriotic. Excellent SRK part. And he could sell the “ladies man” element without making it creepy.
