New behind the scenes photos from Beetlejuice 2 tease a haunting graveyard set. A sequel to the 1988 Tim Burton classic Beetlejuice, the upcoming film has been several decades in the making. It was reported in February 2022 that the project was in development, and filming officially began this month. Beetlejuice 2 is expected to be released on September 6, 2024.
In behind the scenes photos posted to Twitter by Mad Monster, new Beetlejuice 2 images show a chilling crypt, and a lone white church.
The post also confirms that Beetlejuice 2 is currently filming in Buckinghamshire in the United Kingdom, and that the film’s working title is “Blue Hawaii,” a reference to the first failed Beetlejuice sequel that was intended to be titled Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian.
What To Expect From Beetlejuice 2
While not identical, the church in the image closely resembles the church in Beetlejuice, a prominent building in Winter River and a major part of Adam’s (Alec Baldwin) model of the town. Though the details of the sequel’s plot haven’t yet been released, it has been confirmed that Beetlejuice 2 will take place several years after the events of the original movie. Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara will be reprising their roles from the first film, and Wednesday star Jenna Ortega has been cast as Lydia Deetz’s daughter.
In May, Justin Theroux and William Dafoe were cast in the film, with the latter slated to play an afterlife law enforcement officer. Later, it was announced that Monica Bellucci had joined the cast and will be playing Betelgeuse’s wife. Beetlejuice composer Danny Elfman has also returned to the creative team. With filming on Beetlejuice 2 just having begun, it may be some time until more concrete details are revealed.
Though Beetlejuice 2 is highly-anticipated by fans of the original, many raised concerns that the sequel wouldn’t have the same feel as Burton’s first film did. However, with pictures of a grown-up Lydia Deetz in full gothic attire emerging online that are very much in line with the style of the original movie, Beetlejuice 2 is shaping up to be a Burton fan’s dream.
