Warning: This post contains MAJOR spoilers for Fast XThe F9 post-credits scene teased the conflict between Sung Kang’s Han and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw, and Fast X showed how the Fast and Furious Han and Shaw reunion happened. The 10th and penultimate entry in the mainline Fast and Furious franchise sees Jason Momoa’s Dante attempt to take revenge on Dominic Toretto, played by Vin Diesel, for the death of drug kingpin Hernan Reyes in 2011’s Fast Five. Dante targeted everyone Dom knew, loved, and ever worked with in his efforts to avenge his father’s death and gain a modicum of revenge.
Expert drifter and family member Han seemingly died during the events of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, with his supposed killer revealed to be Deckard Shaw in Fast & Furious 6. Deckard Shaw had attacked Han in revenge for his brother’s hospitalization. However, Han was revealed to be alive in F9, having spent the last five years living in Tokyo. The F9 post-credits scene saw the two characters come face-to-face for the first time, with Han seemingly ready to get revenge on Shaw for his supposed death. However, things went in a different direction in Fast X.
Han & Shaw Are Technically On The Same Team In Fast X
Han and Deckard Shaw’s conflict was still hot when they met up in Fast X. The Fast and Furious Han and Shaw reunion was the exact same moment as the F9 post-credit scene. What that post-credit scene did was jump ahead in time, to a point in the middle of Fast X, and tease audiences about when the two rivals meet. With Han’s story being one told out of chronological order in the movies anyway, it makes sense that Fast X would play with the time as well for the character. By the time they meet in the movie, Han, Roman, Tej, and Ramsey are running out of places to go for help while the new bad guy Dante has mercenaries hunting them down.
Deckard Shaw was forgiven by Dom after saving his son from Cipher at the end of The Fate of the Furious, while Han was shown to already be a member in 2009’s Fast & Furious. However, the Fast and Furious Han and Shaw reunion had yet to occur. When he knocked on the door to ask Shaw for help, Deckard believed Han was there for revenge and the two had a massive fight. However, mercenaries showed up, and the two teamed up to fight them off, causing Shaw to realize what the real danger was. He reluctantly agreed to help them, but then when he learned his mother was also a target, Shaw sped off to save her and never returned in the movie.
Will Han Ever Get His Revenge On Deckard Shaw?
Given the way the Fast and Furious Han and Shaw reunion happened, it seems unlikely that Han will seek revenge on Deckard Shaw for his attack. Shaw redeemed himself by saving Brian Toretto’s life in The Fate of the Furious, and it would be extremely out of character for Han to murder anyone, especially one within the family. Han is known, on top of his driving expertise, for his ability to blend in. Dom has even previously described him as a “chameleon.” When Han is forced into combat, he fights in self-defense rather than simply outright attacking someone.
Han’s actor, Sung Kang, has described his Fast and Furious character as a “lover… not a fighter,” so it seems that an outright duel between the two characters is extremely unlikely. However, the justice that many Fast and Furious campaigns have clamored for may instead arrive in the form of Deckard Shaw’s further redemption. The two characters fought together in Fast X for a short but explosive battle, and Shaw killed a man who had Han in his sights, saving his life. Shaw then quipped, “We’re even now,” seemingly absolving him of attempting to kill Han in Fast & Furious 6.
