Summer 2023 promises to be one of the biggest for theaters in quite some time, with a lot of movie releases to know about and look forward to. As the box office continues to recover post-pandemic, 2023 has already seen some impressive successes. The Super Mario Bros. Movie was the first to pass the $1 billion mark and other major franchise entries, such as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and John Wick: Chapter 4, also scored big.
That bodes well for Summer 2023, which is as ever when many of the biggest franchises and blockbusters come out to play. From May’s Memorial Day Weekend through to Labor Day in September, studios will be unveiling their tentpole releases in the hopes of taking at least a piece of the box office pie, or claiming a win in the ongoing streaming wars. These include multiple sequels, new offerings from Marvel and DC (but not the MCU), and franchise returns, reboots, and remakes. Here’s a guide to Summer 2023’s movie release dates, including some images exclusive to Screen Rant.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse has high expectations to live up to when it swings into theaters on June 2, 2023, as the long-awaited sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. Luckily, it looks like meeting them and then some. The sequel will bring back Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) and Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) for a new adventure to save the multiverse from the villainous the Spot (Jason Schwartzman). Miles will also be butting (web-)heads with Miguel O’Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac), and of course there’ll be dozens of other variants crawling onto the screen. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (Theaters) – June 9

Franchise favorites such as Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and Mirage will all be back, but there’s a new human cast led by Anthony Ramos as Noah Diaz. While there are various different groups, the main threat will be much bigger than all of them: the planet-eating villain Unicron, who threatens to destroy Earth.
