After a very unconventional run, Big Brother Canada season 11 has crowned its winner, villain Terell “Ty” McDonald. Ty is a 28-year-old personal trainer from Toronto. His game plan heading into the season was to try to hide his physical skills until he couldn’t anymore, and then he planned to dominate the physical competitions. Ty’s plan came to fruition, although he had a turbulent road to victory.
Ty formed early alliances with the other men in the house but ultimately only stayed loyal to Zach Neilson, whose brash personality got the pair in hot water. Eventually, the two became wrapped up in a scandal when they outed Hope Agbolosoo for withholding a secret letter from the outside world from production. Zach quit the game in anger over the controversy, and Ty nearly followed him out the door. However, he decided to stay in the game and continue pursuing his showmance with Claudia Campbell.
Ty McDonald Is Big Brother Canada’s Strongest Physical Competitor
Ty’s winning game on Big Brother Canada 11 proved he’s the most accomplished physical competitor in BBCAN history. With seven competition wins, plus a victory in the safety competition during the Chain of Safety twist, Ty set several records on the show. Notably, he won five Power of Veto competitions, a new record. Ty was immune from eviction at nearly every point in the endgame, and he was able to evade elimination in the few spots in which he didn’t win safety.
The only Big Brother Canada winner whose competition performances can rival Ty’s would be Kevin Martin. On Big Brother Canada 5, Kevin won out from the Final Eight onward. He was never eligible for eviction from that point on, having won either Head of Household or the Power of Veto. However, Ty still has more competition wins on his Big Brother resume than Kevin does.
Ty McDonald Had The Worst Social Game Of Any Big Brother Canada Winner
On the other hand, Ty’s social game left a lot to be desired. His arrogance and poor communication skills caused him to be in bad strategic positions for long stretches during the game. Had it not been for his competition prowess, Ty would have been evicted early on. His treatment of his showmance partner Claudia led him to be reviled by the show’s fan base. Ty’s relationship with Claudia was poorly received by the outside world, and he garnered unfavorable comparisons to Big Brother 21‘s Jackson Michie due to his demeaning and toxic attitude.
Ty garnered a great deal of criticism for his treatment of the women in the house, and his emotional manipulations of Claudia were uncomfortable to watch. There’s an argument to be made that his social game wasn’t as bad as it seemed, as Claudia herself won the final HOH and took Ty to the Final Two with her, only for Ty to win in a nearly unanimous jury vote. Regardless, every other Big Brother Canada winner demonstrated a more consistent and clear sense of social strategy, and Ty will certainly be remembered as one of Big Brother Canada‘s most controversial winners.
