Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Quick Links

One of the most powerful enemies in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the terrifying Gleeok, a three-headed dragon that players can try to beat by targeting its clear weak points. A classic foe from other games in the series, Gleeoks are ferocious beasts that come in different types scattered around Hyrule. A tough challenge for even the most experienced players; some Gleeok reign as kings looking for a worthy challenge.

There are around eleven Gleeoksfound in the game, with one in The Depths, eight around the grounds of Hyrule, and two among the Sky Islands. Every Gleeok will test the player’s mastery of combat with Link, so players should prepare for these encounters by fusing strong weapons, finding armor, or collecting bow ammo before the fight. In addition, many Gleeoks can be spotted flying around the map, waiting to attack as soon as players get in range.

How to Defeat A Gleeok in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Stunned Frost Gleeok from Player Shooting Arrows into Eyes on Three Heads

Gleeoks come in three variants in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and each has an elemental type, but players must always target the creature’s heads that serve as a weak point for the beast. The eye of a Gleeok, in particular, can be shot by arrows to deal increased damage to the mini-boss. If Link hits every head’s weak point enough times, the Gleeok will fall over stunned, allowing players to deal significant damage with a melee weapon.

Players can target each of a Gleeok’s three heads to eventually stun the creature if they manage to hit the eyes of the boss enough times with arrows or another ranged weapon.

The three types of Gleeok are Flame Gleeok, Frost Gleeok, and Thunder Gleeok, with affinities for fire, ice, and electricity, respectfully. Wearing armor that resists these elements on each Gleeok gives players a way to take less damage during the fight. However, the best way to counter these creatures in Zelda: TOTK is buy dealing with the opposite elemental damage to a Gleeok type. For example, a Flame Gleeok has a vulnerability to ice damage.

Since Gleeoks take up an enormous amount of space, players should consider using their paraglider to move around through air currents as they fight. Doing this gives more time to set up arrow shots against the beast’s heads or throw items that deal elemental damage, such as Chuchu Jelly.

How to Defeat A King Gleeok

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom King Gleeok from The Depths

Perhaps the most challenging fight in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the upgraded version of a regular Gleeok, the King Gleeok. Four King Gleeoks can be found while players explore, with far more health and of greater size than any Gleeok encountered before. In addition, each head of a King Gleeok spews a different type of element, with all three shooting fire, thunder, and ice in equal measure at the player.

King Gleeok

Location

Scourge of the Hebra Sky

Near the Rising Island Chain, within the Hebra Sky.

Scoruge of the Necluda Sky

Close to the Thunderhead Isles, within the Necluda Sky.

Scourge of the Gerudo Sky

By the West Hyrule Sky Archipelago, within the Gerudo Sky.

King Gleeok

In The Depths, within Gleeok Den.

Thankfully, King Gleeoks have the same weaknesses as normal Gleeoks, meaning players should still be aiming at the eyes on each creature’s head. Besides the increased health and damage of King Gleeoks, the only difference while fighting them comes from the unity of elemental damages. However, King Gleeok in The Depths can also inflict a condition special to that location, so players will need to bring something that helps them resist Gloom in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Learning how to defeat any kind of Gleeok in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom prepares players for any challenge the game can throw at them, as these enemies are probably the most challenging foes to beat in the game.
