The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Garcelle Beauvais spoke out against Vanderpump Rules for taking advantage of her son, Oliver Saunders. Lately, Oliver has been caught up in some drama lately with some other stars of the show. Garcelle thinks that the way he was portrayed when the show aired was unfair and didn’t even watch the episode in question when it came out.
At the 6th Annual Best Buddies’ Celebration of Mothers, RHOBH‘s Garcelle Beauvais spoke to People about the drama involving Oliver. After the huge Vandepump Rules scandal between Tom Sandoval and Raquel Leviss took place, causing Tom’s nine-year relationship with Ariana Madix to end, Oliver was spotted kissing Raquel at a nightclub. Garcelle defended him and admitted that her friends are angry over the whole situation. She explained, “Obviously, he’s my son. And we don’t always make great decisions. And he was definitely separated at the time.” Garcelle is referring to his ex-wife Samantha Saunders, with whom Oliver shares their 2-year-old son Oliver Jr.
RHOBH’s Garcelle Beauvais Is Grateful For VPR’s Lisa Vanderpump
Since all the drama went down while the show was filming, it took a while for the episode of Vandepump Rules involving Oliver to air, but Garcelle said, “I didn’t watch the episode because I didn’t want to. But my friends were like…they were mad for me.” Her friends that watched the episode also agreed that Oliver was being “used” by Vanderpump Rules. However, despite the backlash that Oliver received, Garcelle was grateful for Lisa Vanderpump coming to his defense. “Lisa has been great, and she stood up for him.” This sentiment makes sense coming from Garcelle, as the RHOBH star has been known not to hold a grudge.
While being a reality TV star can be difficult enough, it would be even trickier to have other family involved across other shows as well. Garcelle has a lot to deal with just keeping up with RHOBH, and then getting involved with the drama on Vanderpump Rules is another story that she has to have an opinion on because it directly involves her son. For her to speak out on the exploitation and the toll it took on her is understandable. Since joining RHOBH season 10, Garcelle has gained some reality TV experience and was hopefully able to pass some of it along to Oliver during this scandalous time.
Amid all the glitz and glamour that appears on these reality TV shows, this kind of drama that affects people directly is a reminder that these are real people behind the screen. Whether it be RHOBH or Vanderpump Rules, the things that take place on those shows do impact people directly. To an extent, reality TV is tampered with, and producers may string along certain storylines and edit things to their liking. However, at the end of the day, the mental health and well-being of the people starring on the show is a priority, and Garcelle is right to speak out on her son’s behalf.
Vanderpump Rules airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EDT on Bravo.
