Netflix’s Red Notice cast is full of A-list actors in roles for which they seem well-suited. The film centers around two art thieves, Nolan Booth (Ryan Reynolds) and The Bishop (Gal Gadot), competing to steal three golden eggs which are rumored to have belonged to Cleopatra. FBI Agent John Hartley (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) is tasked with capturing Bishop. However, soon the unlikely pair team up in an effort to capture the elusive Bishop. Along the way are many double-crosses, triple-crosses, and clever jokes delivered by the Red Notice cast.
Red Notice‘s popularity on Netflix despite negative reviews is likely largely thanks to the star-studded cast. Seeing three of the biggest stars joining together for a globe-trotting, big-budget adventure certainly excited audiences enough to check out the movie on Netflix. Time will tell if that popularity is enough to launch what seems to be hopes of a new franchise, but the Red Notice cast also has plenty of other projects they can fall back on in the meantime.
Dwayne Johnson as John Hartley
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson stars as FBI agent John Hartley and is the typical cop-type character. However, Hartley also has some secrets up his sleeve as well and being forced to go on the run with a con man might have been exactly what he planned. The role is the standard tough action hero with a talkative partner that Johnson has played many times before to great success.
Johnson is best recognized for the Jumanji reboots, as well as appearing in the Fast & Furious franchise as Hobbs. He is also known for voicing Maui in the hit animated film Moana, a role he will reprise in the upcoming live-action Moana movie. Johnson’s long-awaited step into the superhero genre didn’t go as smoothly as planned with Black Adam underperforming and Johnson confirming the franchise wouldn’t be moving forward at the new DCU. However, he has plenty of projects in the works, including reteaming with Netflix for the holiday action movie Red One with Chris Evans.
Ryan Reynolds as Nolan Booth
Ryan Reynolds also headlines Netflix’s action movie as wisecracking art thief Nolan Booth. This smooth talker often drops references to other films as he steals art under Hartley’s nose. The character is similar to a lot of other famous Reynolds characters.
The actor is known for playing action heroes with a strong sense of humor. This includes the fourth-wall-breaking Deadpool films, in which he plays the titular character. Deadpool 3 will see the character not only enter the MCU but will also feature the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Reynolds also starred in Free Guy, The Adam Project, and Spirited. He will soon be seen in John Krasinski’s new movie Imaginary Friends.
Gal Gadot as Sarah Black/The Bishop
The Bishop is the foil to Booth and Hartley, becoming the reason the pair are forced to team up. She is a smooth art thief, perhaps an even better one than Booth. She remains one step ahead of Booth and Hartley the entire time while seeming to be enjoying the ride the entire time. Gadot is able to change things up from her usual stoic on-screen persona by delivering a character who has a cheeky sense of humor to her.
It’s interesting that she is stealing Cleopatra’s art as Gadot herself has been cast as the Egyptian Queen in an upcoming film. Gal Gadot’s fame rose when she was cast as Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman. She has gone on to star in Wonder Woman and its sequel Wonder Woman 1984. Unfortunately, like Johnson’s Black Adam, Gadot’s Wonder Woman franchise is dead, a casualty of the new direction the DCU is taking under James Gunn. However, Gadot has plenty lined up with the Netflix thriller Heart of Stone and she is set to play the Evil Queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.
Red Notice Supporting Cast & Characters
Chris Diamantopoulos as Sotto Voce: Sotto Voce is a Bond-villain type character who is a deadly threat to the main characters of the movie. Diamantopoulous voiced ROBOTUS on Netflix’s Inside Job. He is also known for being part of the documentary crew for the final season of The Office and has recently appeared in shows like Lucky Hanks, Daisy Jones & the Six, and Mrs. Davis. He will also be part of the cast of George Clooney’s next directorial effort The Boys in the Boat.
Ritu Arya as Inspector Urvashi Das: This inspector works for Interpol, trying to stop and recover stolen art. She tries to track down the thieves in this film. Arya is best known for playing Lila Pitts in The Umbrella Academy and she will be part of the star-studded cast of Barbie as one of the many Barbies.
Ivan Mbakop as Tambwe: Mbakop is a newcomer who has appeared in Reminiscence Hawkeye, and The Good Lord Bird. He will next been seen opposite Giancarlo Esposito in the series Parish.
Vincenzo Amato as Director Gallo: Amato has appeared in the Unbroken films, as well as Law & Order: SVU and Boardwalk Empire. He recently appeared in the series Fleishman is in Trouble
Rafael Petardi as Security Chief Ricci: Petardi is known for voicing various roles in Carmen Sandiego.
