The Conners may have been renewed for season 6, but not long after that, it gets a disappointing update. Unsurprising to many, ABC finally ordered the next season of the Roseanne spin-off. Before fans can even fully enjoy the news, however, the latest update for The Conners means that viewers will have to wait a bit longer before they return to Lanford.
Per TV Line, ABC has unveiled its fall 2023 TV schedule. Described as its “new strike-proof schedule,” the breakdown is missing many of its scripted series, with Abbott Elementary airing reruns. More interestingly, The Conners season 6 is supposedly set for a mid-season premiere, but it will still depend on how the ongoing Writers Guild Strike of 2023 will pan out in the next several months.
What To Expect From The Conners Season 6?
The Conners season 5 ended with a pretty laid-back finale. It focused on Mark’s graduation, as he looks forward to the future, he also has to make peace with his past. Arguably its biggest plot point is officially vilifying John Galecki’s David, after he failed to attend his and Darlene’s son’s graduation. The plot twist has made it difficult to feature the character moving forward, which is sad for original Roseanne viewers.
It’s no secret that The Conners could end with season 6. Whether this actually pans out is uncertain at this point, especially considering how popular it is. However, the fact that ABC has only renewed the show for a single year could be an indication that everyone involved in the Roseanne spin-off series is being careful with how long it can still be on the air. For what it’s worth, there are still lingering plot points that the series needs to address before it fully wraps up. That includes the worsening condition of Roseanne and Jackie’s mother, Bev.
The fact that The Conners has been able to successfully transition to being a show on its own following Roseanne‘s cancelation is already impressive. Fans have continued to follow it despite the scandal, so naturally, ABC would want to have it on the air for as long as possible. But it also needs to ensure that the overall franchise’s legacy is intact, so crafting a satisfying ending should be a priority.
