WARNING: Spoilers for Succession season 4The Succession season 4, episode 9 trailer previews the penultimate episode, titled “Church and State.” On the eve of the presidential election, the Roy siblings hosted their traditional tailgate party for powerful political insiders. There, Kendall attempted to spread doubt about the GoJo deal by going regulatory. Shiv tried to thwart the plan by inviting Matsson, only to learn the GoJo CEO grossly inflated his subscriber numbers in India, which could tank the deal for real. In the end, Kendall proposed an ambitious plan to run it reverse Viking by buying GoJo with himself as the sole CEO.
After the eighth episode chronicled a chaotic and historic election night, HBO released the Succession season 4, episode 9 trailer. Check it out below:
The trailer shows the Roy siblings preparing for Logan’s funeral which, as family gatherings generally are on Succession, is sure to be an emotional and tense affair. Logan’s funeral sees nearly every major character coming together, including all four Roy siblings, Ewan, Marcia, Gerri, President-elect Jeryd Mencken, Mattson, Caroline, Karl, Greg, Frank, and more. The preview also highlights how there are only two episodes of Succession remaining.
What To Expect From Succession Season 4, Episode 8
Succession season 4 episode 8 saw Roman essentially interfere in the election in favor of the far-right conservative, Jeryd Mencken, over the Democratic frontrunner Daniel Jiménez, with the former promising to block the GoJo deal if elected. The trailer for next week’s episode shows the conniving Roy sibling continuing to take center stage. With his signature smarminess, Roman practices giving his father’s eulogy, in which he attempts to position himself as Logan’s natural successor. Even as Kendall and Roman were appointed interim co-CEOs in episode 4, each is still vying to take the top position all for themselves.
As episode 9 moves closer toward the show’s endgame, it’s becoming increasingly unlikely that any single character will emerge as the true victor. Succession‘s final season has hammered the point home that it is a show about terrible people – especially Kendall, Roman, and Shiv – who experience only occasional human moments, and now the Roy siblings’ solidarity has been completely shattered. More doom and gloom is likely in store for next week’s penultimate episode. However, the feeling of Succession season 4 escalating into an exciting finish has intensified even further.
