Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Fear the Walking Dead season 8, episode 1.Fear the Walking Dead showrunner Andrew Chambliss has given more insight into PADRE’s agenda in season 8 of the show. In Fear the Walking Dead season 8, episode 1, a seven-year time jump reveals Morgan’s daughter Mo has been indoctrinated by PADRE and given the name Wren. Over the course of the episode, Mo learns Morgan is her father and Grace is her mother, beginning to question the life she’s been living in PADRE.
Speaking with TV Insider, Chambliss revealed more about PADRE’s agenda in Fear the Walking Dead season 8. He explained what PADRE does differently than other communities in The Walking Dead universe and the significance of children to the future they’re trying to build. Check out what Chambliss had to say below:
PADRE holds a unique place in the TWDU, not just because its location and defenses make it an extremely safe place to live, but also because of the way it’s organized itself. PADRE isn’t just about survival; it’s about redefining the way everyone lives within its community in an attempt to build a society that’s immune from things that have led to the downfall of so many other settlements: personal connections, selfishness and choices based on emotion instead of reason.
It’s no accident that, as we learned in the Season 7 finale, PADRE seems to be building its ranks by kidnapping children from their parents. PADRE wants citizens who aren’t old enough to remember the old ways because those kids will be the ones who will wholeheartedly embrace a new way of living. One that will make sure humanity survives.
What Secrets Is PADRE Hiding?
While PADRE seems adamant about indoctrinating children to build the future they want, the group still has secrets yet to be uncovered. This includes why they are continuously drawing blood from Madison, keeping her alive despite her betrayal seven years earlier. Answers about PADRE’s more mysterious behavior will likely be revealed later in Fear the Walking Dead season 8.
One key aspect of Fear the Walking Dead season 8 will be the core survivors’ fight against PADRE and their forces. While Morgan and Grace currently work for PADRE, characters like Dwight, June, and Daniel haven’t been accounted for yet. As Mo begins questioning PADRE’s methods and her role in the community, Morgan will likely join her in trying to escape or defeat them. However, survivors not working for PADRE will probably be the first to fight back.
Because of Fear the Walking Dead season 8’s time skip, it’s unclear where the other core survivors in the series are and what their goals will be when reintroduced. However, promotional material reveals they are destined to push back against PADRE, meaning it won’t be long until the return. When other survivors do fold back into the story, it may usher in more answers about PADRE and their antagonist role in Fear the Walking Dead season 8.
