After rumors swirled around about former Below Deck chef Ben Robinson being the father of fellow cast member Kate Chastain’s newborn son, the long-time chief stew clapped back in the most clever way possible. Kate and Ben had a romantic history on the show, but have still remained friends to this day, and appear on Below Deck Galley Talk together. The two were often seen flirting, fighting, and making up on Below Deck seasons 2 through 5.
On May 8, Kate first shut down the paternity rumors by sharing a shady tweet. “For the record, the only thing this handsome guy has in common with any chef is the tendency to get emotional around meal times,” she tweeted, along with a sweet photo of her son Sullivan Cay, who she welcomed on May 5. Kate further played along with the false accusations while commenting on Ben’s engagement post on Instagram with his new fiance, Kiara Cabral.
“She’s going to be the best stepmom ever,” Kate jokingly wrote to her friend, proving that the rumors don’t seem to bother her at all.
Fortunately for Kate, Below Deck fans thought her Instagram comment was hilarious. “Love you so funny,” one fan wrote. “You win the internet award today, momma,” another commented. Most of the replies praised how Kate was unapologetic and able to laugh at herself. “You win the internet trolls,” a follower said to Kate. Another fan noted how Ben’s engagement post seemed to confirm that he definitely wasn’t the father of Kate’s child. “He [Ben] just gave everyone a big middle finger to the face!! Lol..Love it and miss seeing you on TV.”
Kate may no longer be on Below Deck, but she was always a fan-favorite on the show. As a chief stew, she wasn’t afraid to be honest, even if it would hurt other crew members’ feelings. At 40 years old, the Below Deck alum made the courageous move to bring a child into the world on her own, without waiting for a man to do so. Whoever the father of her child may be, whether it’s known or not, Kate isn’t ashamed to be a single mother and is focused on giving her son the best life possible.
All rumors aside, Kate and Ben have no hard feelings against each other. They are still very close and live in the same building. There’s no doubt that the Below Deck stars will continue to celebrate different milestones in their lives together. With Kate being a new mom and Ben getting engaged to his fiance Kiara, it gives them even more of a reason to be supportive of one another.
