Batman Beyond jumps out of the comic pages into the cosplay scene with an insanely upgraded costume. The Batman of the Future has a reputation for being an even darker and angstier take on the Caped Crusader. As Terry McGinnis continues to become a better Batman than Bruce Wayne, his experimental costume must change with him.
In a recent instagram post, expert cosplayer voodoocreates suits up as a custom version of Batman, the Tomorrow Knight of Neo Gotham City. The background of the rain compliments the gloomy and epic aesthetic that comes with being part of the Bat-Family. Instead of the skin-tight black suit, Voodoo shows off Batman Beyond as a mature and seasoned veteran type of vigilante with flexible armor. Complete with new shoulder and knee pads as well as arm spikes to replace his claws, this Batman shows that he has more than surpassed his predecessor.
Batman Beyond Cosplay Upgrades Terry McGinnis
Unlike most of the Bat-Family, Terry McGinnis made his debut in the 1999 DC animated series, Batman Beyond, where the brash teen befriends an elderly and retired crime-fighting Bruce Wayne and later takes on the mantle of the new Batman. After the Beyond cartoon ended in 2001, Terry later returned in subsequent Justice League Unlimted crossovers and finally in his own comics continuity.
Batman Beyond Wears the Armor Bruce Feared
Batman Beyond takes the best of Batman’s scare tactics and amplifies them with an experimental suit that was too powerful for Bruce to use during his own tenure. At this point in Terry’s career as Batman, he has been thrown into the deep end following Bruce Wayne’s death. With no mentor figure to go to for advice, Terry must take matters into his own hands as the Batman. With news that Batman Beyond will return with a new limited series in July, Terry has shown off a brand-new costume to protect Neo Gotham. Terry’s frightening and slicker armor complete with bigger wings and talons makes him more than ready to put the fear of God into criminals. As old and new villains wreak havoc on the city, Batman Beyond will always be dressed to fight and intimidate.
Terry’s fight against injustice, passed down by his mentor, needs all of the help he can get, and his upgrades are a part of that. With a new suit and a new environment to explore as a solo hero, this Batman cosplay is the perfect example of the future Terry is headed towards – one where he operates outside Bruce’s shadow. Batman Beyond’s journey is far from over, but now is the time for a new chapter to be told with a brand new suit and maybe even a new set of allies by his side.
