While their exact fate has yet to be confirmed in the Star Wars canon, Mandalorians were secretly involved in the sequel trilogy during the Resistance’s conflict with the First Order. Following the reign of the Empire, Mandalore and its people were nearly wiped out. However, The Mandalorian season 3 has brought forth a new age for the planet, better explaining their subtle role in the sequels that’s incredibly easy to miss.
During the rise of the Empire, Mandalore underwent a massive period of upheaval. While many chose to resist, retaliation was brutally swift with a planet-wide Imperial bombardment that became known as the Night of a Thousand Tears. This led to the near-genocide of the Mandalorian people and a scattering of the few survivors. However, the efforts of Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) and Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) in The Mandalorian season 3 saw the reclamation of Mandalore during the dawn of the New Republic from the Imperial Remnant. As such, The Rise of Skywalker confirms Mandalorians continued to play a role in the galaxy during the sequels.
Mandalorian Fighters Were At The Battle Of Exegol
The battle between the Resistance and the First Order culminated in The Rise of Skywalker with the resurrection of Emperor Palpatine on Exegol and his secret force known as the Final Order. Having built an immense fleet of Star Destroyers, the Resistance was vastly outgunned with very small odds of victory. They would have been completely wiped out were if not for Lando Calrissian’s role in The Rise of Skywalker who rallied those who wanted to see the galaxy kept free from tyranny be it the Empire, First Order, or anyone else.
As a result, two Mandalorian Fang Fighters can be seen among the thousands who answered Lando’s call to form a new alliance against Palpatine. However, they’re only seen for an incredibly brief moment right after the heroes regain control of their ships after the Emperor’s massive blast of Force lightning. Additionally, it stands to reason that there were more than just those two Mandalorian pilots who showed up to help save the galaxy, especially considering the sheer number of ships that arrived out of hyperspace to follow Calrissian’s lead in the Millennium Falcon.
What Happened To Mandalore During The Reign Of The First Order?
Currently, its unknown what becomes of Mandalore during the reign of the First Order. As it stands, the Mandalorians have managed to reclaim their planet from the Imperial Remnant which eventually becomes the First Order in the years before The Force Awakens. Although this seemingly indicates they’ll continue to keep their home in a prosperous new age for Mandalore rather than losing it again, any number of things could happen as The Mandalorian continues with future seasons (and an upcoming movie). Regardless, it’s cool to see that Mandalorians did indeed have a presence in the sequels and helped save the Star Wars galaxy from the dark side.
