Characters are dropping like flies in the One Chicago franchise, and it appears that Sylvie Brett, played by Kara Killmer, might be the next one out the door in Chicago Fire. Killmer has portrayed Brett since season 3 when she was brought on by Firehouse 51 to replace Leslie Shay, who had died while on the job. As fans recall, Brett was in a relationship with Matt Casey until he moved to Oregon to care for Andrew Darden’s sons in season 10. They maintained a long-distance romance for multiple episodes, but when the season 11 premiere came around, Brett broke up with Casey because the distance put too much of a strain on their relationship. He returned to Chicago in episode 18 because he was part of a Department of Homeland Security task force to combat a possible terrorist attack. Brett was shaken when she saw Casey back at the firehouse, and things were awkward between them since they obviously still have feelings for one another. Casey’s return to Chicago Fire was only supposed to be for one episode, but a set photo from the season 11 finale revealed that Jesse Spencer is appearing in episode 22, “Red Waterfall.” It’s unclear why he’s in the last episode before the summer break, but perhaps it has something to do with the task force. Or maybe he wants Brett back, which would set up her exit from the series.
The synopsis for “Red Waterfall” reads, “Brett waits for life-changing news. Herrmann encounters a psychic with a grave warning on a call. Kidd finds a new lead on the Homeland Security case.” The finale will touch upon the task force, which could explain Casey’s return. However, Brett’s “life-changing news” is the more interesting part of the synopsis. This news may pertain to the status of her relationship with Casey, or it could relate to the baby Brett saved in Chicago Fire season 11, episode 20. It might be both — Brett could adopt the baby, and then decide to relocate to Oregon to be with Casey. Whatever the case may be, Chicago Fire fans have reason to worry about Brett’s future status in the show.
Could Brett Ever Return To Chicago Fire If She Leaves After Season 11?
Going into the Chicago Fire season 11 finale, the only reasonable excuse for Brett to leave the show would be if she were moving to Oregon. Nothing else would make her want to bid farewell to her Firehouse 51 comrades, especially after she got her way with Boden firing the paramedic who didn’t restock the OB kit in episode 20. But if Brett were to exit, there’s a possibility that she would only be gone for one season.
As Casey mentioned in episode 18, Ben will be going off to college in a year, which means that Casey wouldn’t have to stay in Oregon afterward. So if Brett joined him on the West Coast, theoretically the couple could return to the show. However, nothing is set in stone, and fans will have to wait until the Chicago Fire season 11 finale to learn more about Brett’s “life-changing” news.
