Micah Meggs, Welcome To Plathville star Olivia Plath’s younger brother, tragically passed away at only 15 years old. Welcome To Plathville debuted on TLC in 2019 and follows the large Plath family that includes patriarch and matriarch Barry and Kim Plath and their children. Ethan, the oldest in the family, got married to Olivia Meggs back in 2018. Olivia’s younger brother is named Micah, not to be confused with Micah Plath, one of Barry and Kim’s sons.
Welcome To Plathville‘s Olivia Plath recently revealed on Instagram (via InTouch) that her brother Micah died at the young age of 15. Olivia opened up a little bit, saying, “I lost a younger brother last night to an unexpected accident and I need some clarity and space for grieving.” As a result, she revealed she’s “jumping off social media for a bit” in order to take “some space now.” ABC13 News reported that this tragedy occurred when a vehicle hit Micah while he was riding his bike in Franklin County, Virginia. There were no injuries on the part of the driver. An investigation is currently underway.
Olivia Plath’s Brother Micah Meggs Wasn’t “Limited” By Cerebral Palsy
Flora Funeral Service posted an obituary on their website, saying, “Micah’s fun loving and intrepid determination characterized his life.” Olivia‘s brother had Cerebral Palsy due to a Brachial Plexus injury that “made it difficult for him to do the things he enjoyed so much.” However, he was not one to complain about his struggles and didn’t “let himself be limited by his disability and continually found ways to pursue his outdoor activities.” Micah’s family will hold a Celebration of Life on May 11.
Olivia hasn’t had an easy time since marrying into the Plath family. Welcome To Plathville has captured the highs and lows, especially the struggles when butting heads with Ethan’s parents. Things came to a head in Welcome To Plathville season 2 when Ethan and Olivia made the huge decision to break themselves away from Barry and Kim, which obviously affected the dynamic with the rest of the family as well. A lot of these struggles stem from the way the Plath parents raised their children. Clearly, Olivia has had to deal with a lot in recent years with family, and now she’s having to face the loss of her brother.
Olivia deciding to take a break from the online world so she can grieve and be with her family during this difficult time makes perfect sense, not to mention it will be good for her own mental wellbeing. Earlier this year, there were reports that filming for Welcome To Plathville season 5 was underway, which means fans could possibly see it air in the back half of 2023. It’s unclear if Micah’s death will be mentioned. But all that matters right now is that Olivia is with her family as they come to terms with this terrible loss.
