The Witcher season 3 trailer is being hit with a huge dislike ratio ahead of Henry Cavill’s exit. A well-known fan of Andrzej Sapkowski’s source material and the preexisting Witcher video games, the British actor’s portrayal of the brooding monster hunter, Geralt of Rivia, over two seasons of Netflix’s fantasy adaptation has been met with much acclaim. Ahead of The Witcher season 3, Cavill made the shocking announcement he would be leaving the show after the season’s end and replaced by Liam Hemsworth for the fourth season.
The Witcher season 3 trailer was recently released and now, a post from @LegacyKillaHD on Twitter reveals that the trailer is being slammed with dislikes on YouTube. Check it out below:
A series of screencaps shows the trailer’s thumbs-up to thumbs-down ratio is a lopsided 52,000 to 202,000 at the time they were taken. On YouTube, the trailer’s comments range from fans saying that Cavill’s Geralt cannot be replaced to talking about Cavill’s Warhammer 40K show at Amazon, which he will have much more creative control over.
Can The Witcher Survive Henry Cavill’s Exit?
In all likelihood, The Witcher season 3 trailer is being slammed with dislikes due to Cavill’s exit rather than the actual content of the trailer. Though no official reason has been provided for his departure, reports claim it stems from a disagreement between the star and showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich as the writers radically departed from the source material. A devotee to the novels and games, Cavill strongly disagreed with the decision to deviate from the source material. Rumors also claim Cavill’s toxic behavior on set could be the reason for his departure.
Whatever the real reason is behind Cavill’s exit, it’s clear there is a significant portion of the fan base taking the actor’s side and making their voices heard through dislikes and comments. Some viewers have also said they plan to stop watching The Witcher after Cavill’s exit, creating concerns about whether the show can survive losing its lead star. The Witcher is one of Netflix’s most popular shows, and Liam Hemsworth is a more than capable leading man, so the series will likely survive, but the reaction to the season 3 trailer should create serious concerns about the show’s future.
