With the Writers Guild of America going on a strike, Good Omens writer Neil Gaiman provides an update about season 2. Good Omens was released in 2019 as a miniseries starring David Tennant and Michael Sheen as a bickering demon and angel, alongside other lauded actors, like Jon Hamm and Frances McDormand, lending their talent. Many details surrounding season 2 are still under wraps, but Tennant and Sheen are returning, with their characters again being the central focus.
Good Omens season 2 has already wrapped filming, with some now concerned as the writer’s strike begins. Gaiman took to Twitter to quell potential concerns over the writing duties of the series.
The Writer’s Guild of America officially announced a writer’s strike after negotiations failed with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which will affect countless entertainment projects. However, Good Omens season 2 looks to be safe, with Gaiman already completing work on the project.
What To Expect From Good Omens Season 2?
Good Omens season 1 covered the entirety of the 1990 book of the same name written by Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett, as it was used as the source material. However, with the show becoming so popular, another season was green-lit, with Gaiman taking on writing solo. Season 2 will be a new story crafted from the ground up, but it is still set to follow the same characters.
Tennant and Sheen will reprise their roles as the demon Crowley and the angel Aziraphale, respectively. While the story is unknown, their bickering friendship will likely be highlighted against the backdrop of a much bigger problem, potentially of their own doing. Jon Hamm’s Gabriel will also return to Good Omens, along with Derek Jacobi as Metatron. However, there will be some notable absences, with McDormand, Adria Arjona, and Benedict Cumberbatch not being involved.
Good Omens season 2 is also set to bring back actors, such as Liz Carr, Doon Mackichan, Gloria Obianyo, and Miranda Richardson, as new characters. There are also many new cast members, including Tennant’s father-in-law and fellow Doctor Who Peter Davison and his son Ty Tennant. Good Omens season 2 is currently in post-production and doesn’t yet have a release date, though it is expected to debut later this year, with the writer’s strike likely not affecting the show.
