Marvel’s renegade assassin Deadpool has a new daughter who pulls triple duty as a trusty pet and the perfect R-rated sidekick. Previously, dating back to the first issue of his new volume, Harrower had kidnapped Deadpool and inserted a piece of the Carnage symbiote inside of him, leftover from the Absolute Carnage event. Taking advantage of the Merc’s unkillable regenerative body, she hoped to use his body as the perfect vessel to grow her own personal hybrid Carnage.
Deadpool #5 by Alyssa Wong and Martin Coccolo see the moment this Carnage offcut finally births itself. At first, it appears as if the arrangement has given birth to a reborn Cletus Kasady, but before Cletus can cause any real damage, the symbiote itself bursts from Deadpool’s chest, eating the reborn serial killer whole. The symbiote in question has fully grown into the form of a rabid dog the size of a full-length truck – one which addresses Deadpool as “Papa.”
Deadpool’s Daughter Reveals Her Full Form
In the issues prior, the symbiote actually proved useful by giving Deadpool an impressive power upgrade. This endeared the assassin to his new symbiote, who he named Renesmee. Now that the symbiote has matured, Deadpool has renamed her “Princess.” Given the issue’s ending, it’s safe to assume that Princess will be sticking around, working alongside Wade as his razor-toothed, gore-covered sidekick. It’s a weird relationship, but given Deadpool’s history of freaky children, not the weirdest of his offspring in the Marvel Universe.
Princess Is Learning from Her ‘Papa’
Deadpool has had a handful of sidekicks over the years, including at one time an actual pet – Deuce the Devil Dog, Daredevil’s old seeing-eye dog who Wade’s best friend Weasel won in a poker game. While Deuce was an endearing part of Deadpool’s story, a normal dog obviously couldn’t match the level of violence or intensity that Wade Wilson has, nor was he effective enough to stick around for the long-term. The exact opposite is the case with Princess, whose loyalty to her “Papa” seems absolute (and absolutely lethal.)
In her first few pages, Princess offers some of the most violent panels of this series so far. At the same time, the issue’s final pages feature Princess showcasing a disarmingly cute side – much like Deadpool himself. It makes sense for the canine symbiote to exhibit habits and personality traits similar to the man who birthed her, and as such, it’s natural that Princess and Deadpool feel like they were made for each other. Deadpool has never had a sidekick as violent and effective (not to mention unexpectedly playful) as Princess. The symbiote was already a welcome addition to Deadpool’s life as a bodily weapon at his disposal. Now that Princess has her own form, she’s one of the most exciting new characters of 2023, and the leatest addition to Deadpool‘s messed-up family.
