Some truly bizarre AI art reimagines Aliens as a Broadway musical, complete with singing Xenomorphs belting out show tunes. Written and directed by James Cameron, 1986’s Aliens was a direct follow-up to Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi horror film Alien. Taking a far more action-orientated approach than Scott’s original film, Aliens is credited with substantially expanding the franchise’s fictional universe and introducing new concepts such as the Colonial Marines and the imposing Xenomorph Queen. Earning two Academy Award wins, as well as a Best Actress nomination for Sigourney Weaver’s turn as Ellen Ripley, Aliens is still regarded as one of the best films in the long-running series.
Now some unusual AI art from GarryWalkerNFTArtist on the subreddit r/midjourney imagines what Aliens would look like if it were adapted into a stage musical.
Featuring central characters like Ripley and Lance Henriksen’s android Bishop, the series of images conjures an intriguing vision of what a Broadway version of the classic sci-fi film might look like. However, in between dancing Colonial Marines, the most amusing images are of Xenomorph standing before a microphone delivering its own vocal solo.
What’s Next For The Alien Franchise
As intriguing as the idea of an Aliens musical is, the immediate future of the Alien franchise looks set to return to basics with a new film from 2013’s Evil Dead reboot director Fede Álvarez. Currently being filmed in Budapest, the latest Alien film is set to star Pacific Rim: Uprising’s Cailee Spaeny in an as-yet undisclosed role. Other cast members include Dora and the Lost City of Gold’s Isabela Merced and Shadow and Bone’s Archie Renaux.
While plot details surrounding the new film are scant, the film’s synopsis offers suggests that it will follow “a group of young people on a distant world, who find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.” It is also suggested that Álvarez’s film, rumored to be titled Alien: Romulus, will stand alone from each of the previous films in the franchise with the iconic Xenomorphs serving as the only key connective tissue.
In addition to a new film, an Alien television series is also being developed by Fargo creator Noah Hawley. With the scripts for season 1 already written, Don’t Worry Darling’s Sydney Chandler has recently been revealed as the show’s first lead. Expected to be the first Alien story set on Earth (excluding the Alien Vs Predator crossover movies), Hawley has revealed the series will feature technologies being developed in competition with the Weyland-Yutani Corporation. Yet whatever Álvarez and Hawley each have planned for their respective Alien projects, it seems unlikely they will feature anything as bizarre as singing Xenomorphs.
