Disney’s new live-action Peter Pan & Wendy film confirms a fan theory about Captain Hook’s reason for being in Neverland. Captain Hook is a terrifying villain determined to get revenge on Peter Pan for causing him to lose his hand to a crocodile. Jude Law portrays the Disney villain in the new film, appearing more terrifying than the large-nosed and long-chinned cartoon character. The original animated film doesn’t give much of a backstory to the captain, but the live-action movie corrects this as it corrects many plot holes and elements of the original Peter Pan.
Unlike the new film, the original Peter Pan also did not explain Peter’s backstory. It turns out he used to live in Wendy’s house but ran away to Neverland so he wouldn’t have to grow up as his mother told him to. This makes his story darker, as he seems to regret leaving his mother because he’ll never see her again. Another sad story connects Peter to Captain Hook. Unlike Peter’s backstory that fans didn’t see coming, there have been theories floating around online for decades about how Captain Hook became a pirate and why he’s in Neverland trying to take down Peter Pan and his friends.
Peter Pan & Wendy Confirms Captain Hook Was A Lost Boy
The new Peter Pan & Wendy confirms the connection between Captain Hook and Peter goes further back than Peter, causing the pirate to lose his hand. Captain Hook was the first lost boy in Neverland, and he and Peter were best friends. However, one day Captain Hook left Neverland without warning, which devastated Peter and left him feeling abandoned. Captain Hook decided to grow up, and when he returned to Neverland, he was a much different person, and Peter saw him as evil.
Disney fans have theorized for years that Captain Hook was an original lost boy. A Reddit theory shared by ruven95 explains Captain Hook and his fellow pirates were lost boys who grew up but never grew out of their childhood dream of being pirates, something many kids dream of when playing pretend. So they decided to grow up and live out their childhood fantasy. In addition, Reddit user Arloste had a darker theory that Peter Pan is the villain and kills any lost boy who tries to grow up, and Captain Hook was trying to save them from Peter Pan because he was able to escape him when he was younger.
How Confirming The Peter Pan Fan Theory Changes The Movie
Captain Hook’s backstory makes him seem less of a villain, completely changing the movie. At the end of Peter Pan, the pirate is chased off by the crocodile who took his hand. However, Peter Pan & Wendy has Peter return to Neverland and help Captain Hook after he was thrown overboard and survived. The confirmed backstory makes it easier to have compassion for Captain Hook and see he was just trying to grow up so he could live his life. He wants others to do the same instead of getting trapped as a child like Peter Pan wants them to do.
