8 Titans Godzilla Has Beaten In The MonsterVerse

Eight Titans have already fallen to Godzilla in Legendary’s MonsterVerse. Across three movies, Godzilla has plowed through nearly all of his opponents, with the sole exception being Mechagodzilla. Like his Toho counterpart, Godzilla has done much to earn his King of the Monsters title.

In 30 years of cinematic history, Godzilla has been able to secure wins over more than a dozen of his fellow kaiju. But, of course, the majority of these victories belong to the Toho version of the character, who has gotten the best of Mechagodzilla, King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Gigan on multiple occasions, not to mention the fights he’s won against Destoroyah, Biollante, and all the others. Considering that the MonsterVerse has had a much shorter life than Toho’s Godzilla franchise, Legendary’s take on the character doesn’t share the same impressive record – yet. That said, he’s already achieved a great deal, even with only three movie appearances under his belt. Here’s all eight Titans the MonsterVerse’s Godzilla has defeated.

8 The Male MUTO

In 2014’s Godzilla movie, the titular monster found himself in an unwinnable situation when he went up against the two MUTOs. Battling both at once proved to be too much for him. It was only after the pair were separated that the odds began to shift in his favor. Godzilla’s fight with the male MUTO worked out quite differently when he didn’t have the monster’s mate to deal with. The creature’s speed and flying ability still made hitting it a challenge, but a blast of atomic breath (his first onscreen use of the power) and a well-timed tail smack put an end to the Titan’s life.

7 The Female MUTO

If it wasn’t already evident that Godzilla was more powerful than the MUTOs, it was made abundantly clear in the following fight. Not long after finishing off the first one, Godzilla wound up coming to the rescue of Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s character, who was about to die at the hands of the female MUTO. Given how she was larger and arguably a much stronger adversary for Godzilla than the flying MUTO, the female was abruptly taken out by a move that’s since been dubbed the “Kiss of Death.” The scene of Godzilla foregoing a proper rematch to send a blast of atomic breath down the MUTO’s threat ended any lingering doubts about Godzilla’s superiority.

6 MUTO Prime

Godzilla Aftershock MUTO Prime

Although she never appeared in live-action, Legendary’s MonsterVerse actually has a fourth MUTO. Known as MUTO Prime, the creature characterized as the strongest member of her species fought Godzilla in Godzilla: Aftershock, a MonsterVerse tie-in comic. After the events of the 2014 movie but before the battle with Ghidorah, Godzilla had to save the humans from MUTO Prime, who stood revealed as the creature who killed the Godzilla ancestor found in the Philippines in the 2014 movie. But while MUTO Prime was obviously strong enough to beat a Godzilla, she was unable to prevail against the present-day version, who killed her with a head stomp.

5 Ghidorah

So far, Godzilla has beaten his greatest enemy at least three times in the MonsterVerse’s history. His first win happened thousands of years ago when they faced off in Antarctica. Clearly, it was his loss to Godzilla that resulted in him being frozen in ice at the beginning of King of the Monsters. After his awakening, Ghidorah and Godzilla engaged in an inconclusive showdown in Antarctica before meeting again in the sea. As a denizen of the ocean, Godzilla naturally held the advantage and succeeded in ripping off one of Ghidorah’s heads.

Had it not been for the military’s decision to deploy the Oxygen Destroyer, chances are this would have been the end for Ghidorah, but their interference made a third and final fight possible. Thanks to getting a much-needed power-up from an electrical grid, Ghidorah came very close to avenging his previous defeats, but this time it was Godzilla who received outside help. A last-minute, fiery upgrade from Mothra enabled Godzilla to obliterate Ghidorah’s body with two uses of his nuclear pulse attack.

4 Scylla

King of the Monsters quietly introduced a Titan who would fight Godzilla offscreen in the aftermath of the movie. In the film’s ending, five Titans were shown bowing down to him in reverence, presumably because they had recognized his dominance when he beat Ghidorah. For at least one of these creatures, this attitude changed in-between MonsterVerse installments. In Godzilla: Dominion, another MonsterVerse tie-in comic, Godzilla had to contend with Scylla, the six-legged insect Titan. In the comic, Scylla’s hunger for a warhead’s nuclear energy outweighed her fear of Godzilla and gave her the bravery she needed to challenge the alpha. Unsurprisingly, she didn’t possess enough raw power to hold her own. After a few blows, she submitted to Godzilla once again.

3 Amhuluk

Dominion involved Godzilla dealing with rebellions from not one, but three of his Titan minions. The second was Amhuluk, a swamp monster armed with vine-like appendages. Though not seen in the flesh in King of the Monsters, Amhuluk’s name was seen on a monitor screen, confirming him to be one of the Titans awakened by Ghidorah. He seemingly followed along with the others when they switched their allegiances to Godzilla, but he crossed a line in Dominion when he got into a territorial conflict with Behemoth over the Amazon Rain Forest, forcing Godzilla to intervene on the latter’s behalf. Amhuluk briefly resisted, but it didn’t take long at all for him to surrender.

2 Tiamat

Neither Scylla or Amhuluk managed a real challenge for Godzilla, but the same can’t be said for Tiamat. Like Amhuluk, Tiamat was one of King of the Monsters’ missing Titans. Properly introduced in Dominion as a massive sea serpent, the creature was residing in an underground lair when Godzilla arrived on the scene, setting up a dramatic, underwater showdown. Though Godzilla is in his element in the water, Tiamat showed no difficulty matching up with him. In fact, Tiamat was actually winning until Godzilla moved the fight onto land. Once that happened, Godzilla was able to force Tiamat into submission.

1 Kong

The King of Skull Island joined the list of Titans beaten by Godzilla in the fourth entry in Legendary’s MonsterVerse. Similar to what happened with Ghidorah, Kong was outmatched against Godzilla when they fought in the ocean. Though this was a decisive win for Godzilla, their second fight provided a greater degree of adversity for the Titan alpha. Using his agility and atomic breath-powered axe, Kong kept the fight going and frustrated Godzilla until he finally lost his temper. In the final minutes of the battle, Godzilla retook the upper hand and delivered a brutal beating of his ancient rival. The scene of Godzilla standing atop Kong with his foot on his enemy’s chest effectively confirmed which of the two Titans is the true King of the Monsters.
