While the Avengers face Kang and his variants, Loki may save the MCU Multiverse. Tom Hiddleston’s Loki has been a part of the MCU since its beginning, going from being Thor‘s main villain to becoming The Avengers’ first-ever enemy, then Thor’s ally and an honorary Avenger before dying at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. Although the original Loki is dead, his new multiversal variant redeemed himself in record time, and now he may be one of the most important heroes in the MCU.
In Loki season 1, the God of Mischief realized how manipulative the TVA really was in protecting the multiverse, as well as how dangerous the destruction of the Sacred Timeline and the arrival of He Who Remains’ evil variants could be. As the only person who remembers that information after He Who Remains’ death, Loki is now more preoccupied with saving the multiverse than ever before, and he may now be the best candidate to achieve it.
The Council Of Lokis Is A Perfect Answer To The TVA
The Time Variance Authority kept the Sacred Timeline in order by eliminating variants and universes that diverged too much from He Who Remains’ designated course of events. That means everything that happened in the Infinity Saga was allowed to take place, including the original Loki’s death. However, the TVA’s methods also involved eliminating innocent people and a tyrannical limitation of free will. Even the TVA agents that did He Who Remains’ dirty work were his victims, as they didn’t remember how or when they ended up working for him.
After the events of Loki season 2 and after the Avengers defeat Kang and the Council of Kangs in Avengers: Secret Wars, Loki could use his knowledge about the multiverse and the Sacred Timeline to establish a new version of the TVA where free will is respected. Loki could reach out to the Loki variants that were sent to the Void and create the Council of Loki. Instead of pruning variants and universes that diverge from the Sacred Timeline, the Council of Lokis could work together to relocate them or give them their own parallel timeline outside the main one.
The Council Of Lokis May Be The God Of Mischief’s Glorious Purpose
Loki has always been seeking his “glorious purpose”, but he has confused it for other more villainous goals such as power, violence, and mischief. In Loki season 1, the God of Mischief witnessed Classic Loki attain his own glorious purpose after years of stagnation, sacrificing himself to Alioth in order to save the rest of the multiversal Loki variants in The Void. Coupled with Mobius’ friendship and Sylvie’s love, this experience may help Loki feel psychologically ready to move on and pursue an honorable “glorious purpose”, which may involve assembling a Council of Lokis who protect the new Sacred Timeline — or Sacred Timelines — with more ethical methods than the original TVA.
Overseeing The Multiverse Is A Good Send-Off For Hiddleston’s Loki
After an entire Infinity Saga and an entire Multiverse Saga, Tom Hiddleston may be ready to retire Loki, who helped kick off the MCU by motivating the Avengers to assemble and save the Earth from him, and now can conclude his MCU journey by assembling a team to save the multiverse. Considering how many times Loki has died in the MCU, another death wouldn’t seem like a fitting send-off for the character, especially because he already went through a definitive death once. Instead of killing off Loki, the MCU could make him the multiverse’s ultimate defender for the rest of eternity, fully redeemed and surrounded by friends, variants, and Sylvie.
The Council Of Lokis Fit The MCU Better Than The Council Of Reeds
In Marvel Comics, the Council of Reeds is a group of Mister Fantastic variants who assemble to defend the multiverse outside of space and time, sacrificing their regular lives to become multiversal protectors. They are ideal enemies to the MCU’s Council of Kangs, who have been confirmed to exist as creators of the MCU’s Sacred Timeline alongside He Who Remains. However, Reed Richards will only make his MCU debut a couple of years before Avengers: Secret Wars, which means that a relationship between him and Kang the Conqueror doesn’t have enough time to be established properly.
On the other hand, Loki is much closer to Kang, as he uncovered He Who Remains in Loki season 1 and will face Victor Timely in Loki season 2. Loki’s main enemies in the Multiverse Saga are all Kang variants, so having a Council of Lokis defeat them could be an important part of the Multiverse Saga’s conclusion. Sylvie and the rest of the pruned Lokis also have a stake in the battle, as they were sent to suffer an eternal torture by He Who Remains and the other Kangs’ questionable plans to protect the Sacred Timeline.
The Council Of Lokis Can Give The Multiverse Saga A Satisfying Ending
Loki is the MCU project who really kicked off the Multiverse Saga in Phase 4, establishing Loki as Kang’s main rival. It would be fitting for Loki to be the character who concludes the Multiverse Saga by wiping out Kang’s legacy and redefining his ideas. Even more fittingly, the TVA and the Council of Kangs’ attempt to micromanage the multiverse would end up creating the Council of Lokis, who know what it feels to be erased from existence and therefore could try to save others from meeting the same fate.
Once the Avengers defeat the Council of Kangs, Loki can take charge of a new Sacred Timeline or set of Sacred Timelines. This way, there wouldn’t be a need for another tragic sacrifice like that of Iron Man or Black Widow. Instead, Loki would sacrifice his thirst for power and the possibility of reuniting with Thor in order to keep protecting the multiverse with the help of his variants and Sylvie — as the original TVA used to say, “for all time, always.”
