Concept art from House of the Dragon is hinting at the massive threat that the dragons might pose. Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) has only used her own dragon, Syrax, for showboating, but other dragons have shown their might already. Caraxes and Vhagar have slaughtered their enemies with ease already. While Syrax hasn’t been able to join them, that doesn’t mean she isn’t terrifying.
Kirill Barybin recently shared images of his work on Syrax’s initial design on Instagram, and the dragon is absolutely gigantic. Check out the images below:
Syrax makes a 6-foot-5-inch man look utterly minuscule. Her face is also carefully designed, so that her arrow-like snout creates an aerodynamic look that hints at her true unimaginable speeds. It’s no wonder dragons are considered the equivalent of nuclear weapons when this is what the Greens will have to face.
Will The Dragons Play A Larger Role In Season 2?
Since House of the Dragon season 1 largely focused on the politics of the middle years of the Targaryen dynasty, their dragons haven’t yet had too much of a chance to show off their strength. Outside of the fight with the Crabfeeder, they have mostly been taking up space. Now that the peaceful years are at an end, the dragons will finally have the opportunity to come out blazing in House of the Dragon season 2. Vhagar has struck the first blow against the Blacks, but Daemon is already working to hatch and recruit new dragons.
Every dragon in House of the Dragon has a role to play in the coming Dance of the Dragons, save for poor Arrax, who died fighting Vhagar in season 1. If Syrax enters the fight alongside Caraxes and the other Dragonstone dragons, it could be more than enough to avenge Arrax and turn the tide against the Greens. Considering that the Greens don’t have reinforcements on the way, they will need to use the uncontrollable Vhagar wisely.
Unfortunately for the Greens, Aemond’s discovery that they don’t truly control the dragons will pose a potential issue. They will now be well aware that they have started a war that neither side can win. The Targaryens and Hightowers are — quite literally — playing with fire, and House of the Dragon season 2 could see both sides burned.
