Ghosted is AppleTV+’s latest big-budget, star-studded action movie, but it hasn’t gotten an ideal reception from critics, and it continues Chris Evans and Ana de Armas’ downward spiral. With movies like The Lost City and Shotgun Wedding, The romantic action comedy trend has reentered the Hollywood sphere, and Ghosted is following suit. However, unfortunately, Ghosted has been compared negatively to other movies of its ilk. The film follows Cole (Evans) as he tracks down a one-night stand (de Armas), who turns out to be a C.I.A. agent, across the world, and while that sounds like stalkerish and toxic behavior, it’s all downhill from there.
Ghosted is full of explosive and spectacular action and an A-list cast, and it clearly had around $150 million thrown into it. However, every one of them has been criticized. But what comes as most of a surprise is how much the chemistry between de Armas and Evans has been attacked. Critics have noted how lifeless they seem on screen despite Ghosted being their third movie together. The films have set a bad trend for the two actors, and based on the Rotten Tomatoes scores, their collaborations have become a process of diminishing returns.
Ghosted Has Chris Evans & Ana de Armas’ Worst Rotten Tomatoes Score
Ghosted unfortunately continues a downward spiral for de Armas and Evans, as it’s their lowest-scoring Rotten Tomatoes movie. The film follows 2022’s The Gray Man, which had a lower score than their first movie together, 2019’s Knives Out, which has a high 97% on the review aggregate site. Evans and de Armas had great chemistry in the movie, and it was likely the catalyst that made them want to work together more – however, this hasn’t quite worked out. Following the whodunnit movie, the two starred in their first streaming-exclusive action movie, The Gray Man, which has a “rotten” 46% on Rotten Tomatoes.
While their chemistry in The Gray Man wasn’t the movie’s problem, as they had little screen time together, it was generally considered way worse than Knives Out and the start of the downward trend. Now, the AppleTV+ movie is their worst collaboration yet with 29%, with not even Ghosted’s MCU cameos garnering more support for the film. However, it is also worth noting that both Ghosted and The Gray Man are high-octane, explosive action movies, and the fact that they’re being watched by critics for the first time on TV screens and maybe even on tablet screens may also play its role in sabotaging audience response in this regard.
Ghosted Has Chris Evans & Ana de Armas’ Worst Audience Score (But It’s Still Positive)
Not only does Ghosted have the lowest critic score of the three Evans & Armas collaborations, but it also has the worst audience score too. The audience score again has a downward trend pattern, as Knives Out has 92%, The Gray Man has a surprisingly high 90%, and Ghosted has 61%. However, while 61% is much lower than de Armas and Evans’ previous audience scores, that’s still positive. That number means that 61% of viewers rated the movie 3.5 stars or higher. While Ghosted is far from a critical hit, it’s still an audience pleaser, and it’s a fun enough action flick that if enough subscribers watch it, it’ll probably get a sequel.
