Adult Swim‘s canceled science fiction series Final Space is officially being resurrected to end its story in a new graphic novel. Final Space was an animated series created by Olan Rogers that ran from 2018 to 2021. It focused on Gary Goodspeed and a lovable green alien named Mooncake as he worked to solve the mysteries of a terrifying dimension called Final Space. Each season explored the concept in various ways including learning how to get there, how to escape it and the horrifying gods that lurked within it. Then, when the third season left viewers on a massive cliffhanger where Mooncake was forced to open Final Space and release the destructive deity Invictus, the show was unceremoniously canceled. It was an announcement that was devastating to not just the fans but also Rogers himself, as he has voiced how upsetting it was to see his passion project not get a proper ending. Now, after two years, the series will finally get this in the form of a graphic novel.
Series creator Olan Rogers released a video on his YouTube channel announcing that Warner Brother Discovery gave him a license to create a graphic novel that will conclude the story in Final Space: The Final Chapter. According to Rogers, the deal only allows him to self-publish the work on a website of his creation, which will mean this final chapter will not be sold on traditional shopping sites like Amazon. He also will not be able to use a Kickstarter to fund it, and there will be no digital copies. However, even with the restrictions, Rogers shared his optimism by stating ,”I see the possibilities.”
Final Space: The Final Chapter Will Wrap Everything Up in a Huge Story
What’s incredible about this announcement is that Rogers plans to not make this final story a brief one. He only has one shot to conclude the tale of these beloved characters according to his deal with Warner Brothers Discovery, so his goal is to make it massive. He’s already hinted that the final novel will be around 400 to 500 pages long and weigh about four pounds. Given the big revelations made at the end of the show’s third season, this comes as no surprise. The crew of the Galaxy One are officially facing a threat that could destroy their entire universe at the hands of a former friend that betrayed them, so there are many emotional loose ends to tie up.
The Comic’s Official Cover Art Sets the Tone Perfectly
Along with his announcement of the upcoming Final Chapter, Olan Rogers also showcased the official artwork for the story’s cover, which he later mentioned on his Twitter was by artist Daz Tibbles, whom he hopes will work on the art of the graphic novel itself. This gorgeous piece showcases Gary Goodspeed being held down by his friends as he tries to reach out to Mooncake and put a stop to the portal he’s been forced to open, allowing creatures from Final Space to spill over into their universe. This captures the destructive reality the crew of the Galaxy One have found themselves in as they attempt to save everyone while also highlighting the friendship between Gary and Mooncake. This is more than just a mission to save the universe. It’s also an effort to save Gary’s closest pal after three seasons of the two growing closer and closer.
Final Space: The Final Chapter is expected to be sent to people who pre-order it by mid-to-late-2024. Fans can order the novel on Olan’s official website at FinalSpaceEnds.com for $125. Rogers has put a soft cap on how many can be ordered at 10,000 copies, but this suggests that he will potentially increase it in the future. This is a huge win for fans of Final Space and Rogers himself as he thanked those who supported him to give the series an ending, and it will undeniably be the perfect way for the Adult Swim sci-fi series to finally conclude.
