How to Catch The Oarfish

The Oarfish in Animal Crossing: Horizons is the most valuable fish players can catch, and due to its value, the Oarfish is also the rarest to find. This fish usually spawns in the ocean; therefore, it is imperative that a player’s island has access to it or can visit a friend’s island that does. However, even with access to the ocean, players can catch the Oarfish only during a certain period, depending if they are in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere.

What makes catching the Oarfish hard is that it can spawn at any time of the day. Unfortunately, this means players will have to keep fishing in Animal Crossing: New Horizons until they catch the Oarfish. Luckily, the Oarfish has a big shadow, making it slightly easier to spot it in the ocean.

How To Catch The Oarfish in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The best place to catch the Oarfish would be at the beach or the dock, as it only spawns in the open seas. However, players can catch the Oarfish only certain months of the year, which may require players to use the Time Travel feature in Animal Crossing: New Horizons if needed.

To make catching the Oarfish easier, players are recommended to use Fish Bait. Players can farm Fish Bait in Animal Crossing: New Horizons by digging up moving sand on the beach to get Manila Clams. Once players have enough Manila Clams, they can craft the bait and use it for catching rare and large fish.

Eventually, players will be able to capture the Oarfish and sell it to Nook for 9,000 bells or CJ for 13,500 Bells. If players manage to capture multiple Oarfish, they should donate one to the museum in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as the large fish looks quite captivating in the tank.
