Demonologist‘s best equipment drastically helps players during the initial experience grind. Some items not included are the Candle and the Photo Camera. They are both needed for side objectives in certain maps, but they won’t help you stay alive or identify the ghost. Like Phasmophobia, the single player is often more difficult than Multiplayer because your time is limited, especially on medium and hard difficulties.
Finding the ghost in large maps can be frustrating while alone because they aren’t constantly active. Leveling up in Demonologist takes more experience than you would think, and medium difficulty, which gives more experience and money, doesn’t unlock until players are level 5. Keep in mind that there’s no shame in heading to the car and returning to the Safe House if you think your run is taking longer than it should be.
Best Equipment For Single Player
Sanity Pills are the most useful item in Demonologist’s Singleplayer mode. Some ghosts will severely drain your sanity, and you can’t have a friend give you an update on your sanity to let you know that you need to leave the house when you’re playing alone. The pills give you more time for identification and completing the side objectives needed to exorcise the ghost.
Demonologist is vague about how low sanity needs to be for ghosts to start hunting, but players are way less likely to be pursued when their sanity is above 60%, at least on Easy and Medium difficulties.
Unlike Phasmophobia, Sanity Pills aren’t single-use items. Each bottle can only be used once per run, but they can be reused during the subsequent runs as long as you don’t die while including them in your loadout for that game. Each bottle costs $1500; up to four bottles can be brought along.
Best Equipment For Multiplayer
Bringing a second EMF tool is useful to counteract the ghosts’ only being active in short bursts. Two players roaming the map with EMFs are more likely to be in the vicinity when activity is happening, and pinpointing the location early into the run makes you more likely to find the ghost before low sanity becomes a problem. One EMF is always included in default equipment, along with equipment like the ESG device in Demonologist and a Canvas, but buying a second one costs $1100.
If your group is still struggling to find a location with more than one EMF, try bringing a Thermometer. Temperature is more consistent than EMF activity but less exact and, depending on the ghost, less noticeable. If the ghost doesn’t have Freezing Temperatures as Ghost Evidence, the temperature change might be a shift of a few degrees. The Thermometer costs $1200.
Players can also buy the Radio in the Safe House as it gives a huge morale boost.
Demonologist hasn’t fully expanded the game enough to make some of the items useful, one of the many gameplay differences from Phasmophobia, its obvious inspiration. Demonologist players are looking forwards to the Kurosawa map, which will hopefully be added in the next major update. Considering you need to be level 10 to unlock the Hospital, unlocking the next map will require players to be at an even higher level. Buying the right equipment makes a huge difference in how quickly players can level up and explore new content.
