Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for The Ultimatum: Queer Love season 1 episodes 1-4.
The Ultimatum: Queer Love is off to a messy start after the first four episodes of the new Netflix show and the spin-off of The Ultimatum: Marry Or Move On dropped on May 24. However, the show already has a promising new couple that formed after cast members were asked to split up and find new romance on the first LGBTQ+ season in The Ultimatum franchise. This led to Lexi Goldberg and Mal Wright forming a bond that already seems like love.
Lexi first entered The Ultimatum: Queer Love with her partner Rae. Lexi was actually the one who issued the ultimatum, as the 24-year-old knows exactly what she wants in life, despite being the youngest on the show. On the other hand, Mal received an ultimatum from her girlfriend Yoly Rojas. Mal wasn’t initially interested in marriage at the moment and wasn’t able to make a commitment to her partner. However, Lexi and Mal have now formed a new couple, as Yoly went on to date Xander, and Rae coupled up with Xander’s original partner Vanessa Papa. Now, Lexi and Mal might be the real golden couple out of the group.
8 Lexi & Mal Share Goals
While Lexi entered The Ultimatum: Queer Love season 1 ready for marriage and Mal was hesitant about the major commitment, she amended her stance when meeting Lexi. Lexi, who is organized, future-focused, and knows exactly what she wants, helped Mal see that a committed future is in the cards for her. In turn, dating around and meeting Mal after splitting with Rae allowed Lexi to recognize that her goal was to find someone who not only wanted to marry her, but who equally valued her. She shared that she felt affirmed and valued “listening to people value the love I bring and the goodness I bring and the maturity I bring” through getting to know other people, including Mal.
7 Lexi & Mal Have Each Other’s Backs
Lexi dealt with a major source of drama in the first few episodes of The Ultimatum: Queer Love, as Vanessa pursued both Lexi and her ex Rae. When Lexi called Vanessa out and chose not to date her, Vanessa came across as a bit vindictive. This led to Lexi blasting Vanessa and urging Rae to use careful judgment when proceeding with selecting a partner. Vanessa then expressed an interest in both Mal and Rae when choosing her partner for the show. While Rae chose Vanessa, even though she knew it could ruin her future with Lexi, Mal first politely but clearly turned Vanessa down and voiced her feelings for Lexi alone.
6 Lexi & Mal Built Trust
It is clear from only a few episodes that Lexi and Mal established the most trust and reliability out of the cast on The Ultimatum: Queer Love. Mal trusted Lexi to speak her mind when it came to calling out Vanessa, while Lexi trusted Mal to have her back and not call her out or betray her. This proved to be a big deal, since Lexi’s partner of several years, Rae, did not stand up for Lexi and chose to date the one person who could sabotage her future with Lexi. While Rae also had a right to date around, it was clear that Mal and Lexi were more aligned in their opinions and beliefs and were able to present a united front after just a week of knowing each other.
Many aspects go into creating a successful relationship, something that The Ultimatum: Queer Love aims to explore. Fortunately for Lexi and Mal, they are compatible on many grounds. The two women have not just an emotional connection, but an immediate physical spark. Mal and Lexi gravitated towards each other from the start of the love experiment show, making their choice to date each other a no-brainer. Mall’s immediate and strong attraction to Lexi appeared to make her original partner, Yoly, visibly uncomfortable and nervous, as Mal was able to develop such strong feelings for Lexi so quickly, while Lexi fully returned them.
4 Lexi & Mal Declared Heartfelt Emotions
Lexi and Mal left their cast members speechless when it came to their emotional declarations for each other when choosing to live together. “I know how to give you what you need in this time. I know it was going to be you, I was always going to choose you,” Mal told Lexi before calling her smart, brilliantly funny, and an anchor. “You would make an amazing wife,” Mal gushed. “You’re the type of human that most people should aspire to be and that most people aren’t lucky enough to meet,” Lexi said in return. “It’s not only that I want to be around you, I feel like I need you” Lexi continued. “I think life with you would be perfect,” she added to Mal.
3 Lexi & Mal Excelled At Moving In
Given their incredible bond, it was no surprise that Lexi and Mal moved in together with a seamless transition during The Ultimatum: Queer Love season 1. “I never had these conversations with anyone else,” Lexi said about her bond with Mal. The women expressed immediate comfort with each other, as well as strong sexual tension. “With Mal we just know each other,” Lexi gushed by episode 3. “I really couldn’t be any happier,” she said to the cameras. Lexi didn’t seem bothered in the least about what was happening between Rae and Vanessa at this time, as she was happy with Mal.
2 Lexi & Mal Navigated Boundaries
Lexi and Mal further demonstrated their bond on The Ultimatum: Queer Love as they were able to navigate their boundaries together after they moved in. The women immediately discussed their comfort levels, including bathroom use and nudity. Lexi and Mal had such conversations openly and without any awkward moments, as they clearly felt comfortable around each other. It was also apparent that they wanted to make each other feel comfortable in their shared living space and not cross any lines.
1 Lexi & Mal Are More Compatible Together
It’s evident that Lexi and Mal are more compatible with each other than they are with their original partners who they first appeared on The Ultimatum: Queer Love with. The women fell fast and hard for each other and were able to find qualities in each other that they had long since been searching for in their original partners. Mal entered the show unable to commit to marrying Yoly. However, she told Lexi in episode 4 that she could see them leaving the show engaged. The next six episodes of The Ultimatum: Queer Love will determine if Mal and Lexi really will leave their original partners for a shot at real love together.
