Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for The Ultimatum: Queer Love episodes 1-2.
The Ultimatum: Queer Love might have only dropped the first four episodes of the season so far, but Vanessa Papa has already made it clear that she’s the most dramatic cast member. The spin-off of The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On features five couples who each feature one woman presenting the other with a marriage ultimatum. After Vanessa’s partner Xander asked her to marry her, the women joined the hit Netflix show and Vanessa began to get messy.
Vanessa and Xander were introduced on The Ultimatum: Queer Love as long-time girlfriends who met as seniors in high school due to their boyfriends being friends. While Xander is ready for marriage and kids, Vanessa made it clear she wants her freedom. Their conflicting future expectations set them up for the premise of The Ultimatum, which asks partners to split up, date around, and discover if they want to marry each other, split, or move on with someone new. While Xander agreed to join the show and break up with Vanessa, she might not have expected how eager Vanessa was to move on.
How Vanessa Is Shaking Up The Ultimatum: Queer Love
Naturally, The Ultimatum would be boring if cast members didn’t agree to date around. However, Vanessa shook things up by eagerly launching herself at all potential partners. To make things as complicated as possible, she selected both Lexi and Rae as her top two choices. Dating both Lexi and Rae was a move equivalent to playing with fire, as the two women just broke up for the show. Therefore, they were placed in an extremely uncomfortable position when Vanessa pursued both of them at the same time, often in front of each other. However, Vanessa quickly destroyed her potential romance with Lexi after revealing she wasn’t ready to grow close to someone else.
Are Vanessa & Xander Meant To Be?
While Xander asked to leave the relationship experiment show early on, Vanessa refused to, sharing that she wanted to progress in her relationship and see change. Unfortunately, the future doesn’t look promising for the two women, as they both want very different things. “I care about my future children more than I care about anything else,” Xander stated. On the other hand, Vanessa values her freedom above all. Therefore, it seems unlikely that she’ll want to settle down and have a family after the show. Xander made it clear that she wants to get married and won’t compromise her dream. If Vanessa doesn’t change her mindset, the women won’t stay together.
While things for Vanessa and Xander don’t look promising, there’s a chance they can work things out during The Ultimatum. However, Vanessa appeared to betray her partner by discussing private things about Xander behind her back to other cast members during the filming of the Netflix show. Vanessa, who also dated men, suspected that Xander could be asexual after she shared that they lost their spark in the relationship. However, this isn’t something Xander brought up herself on The Ultimatum: Queer Love. Therefore, Vanessa’s messy behavior alone could sink her current relationship.
