Warning! This article contains spoilers for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II #5 The Power Rangers’ Megazord is the pinnacle of their combined might, yet somehow, the latest Power Rangers adventure gave the classic ‘90s Megazord a deadly new upgrade.
The ‘90s Megazord, otherwise known as the Dino Megazord, made its debut in the original live-action Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series. The Megazord is the combination of all the Power Rangers’ personal Dino Zords. Each Power Ranger, upon accepting their cosmic role as superpowered heroes, are given access to a Zord that is based on the ‘dinosaur’ they represent (even though a few aren’t actually dinosaurs). Alone they are powerful, but when brought together, the Megazord is practically unstoppable. However, after the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers crossed over with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the vile and villainous Krang made this super battle-mech way deadlier, as he equipped it with an all-new weapon that was able to take down two other specialty Zords with a single hit.
TMNT’s Krang Upgraded the Power Rangers’ Megazord
In Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II #5 by Ryan Parrott and Dan Mora, the Power Rangers and the Ninja Turtles are in the middle of the final fight against the evil combined forces of Rita Repulsa and General Krang. While the ground-troops were easy enough to handle–such as Rita’s monsters and Krang’s stone men–Krang himself stepped things up a notch when he debuted his new mech-suit: a Megazord. Krang is famous for his mechanical armor, as his physical body requires that he don a weaponized suit to be threatening. So, with access to Power Ranger technology, Krang decided to elevate the usual designs of his suits and become a living Megazord. To the Krang Megazord, Shredder became the Green Ranger once again, and given his temporary allegiance to the Turtles, he called upon the Dragonzord to stop his former ally. Not only that, but Zordon himself was controlling a giant version of Metalhead imbued with the power of the Morphin Grid (dubbed the Turtle-Zord), to challenge Krang alongside the Dragonzord. But, unfortunately, that didn’t do them much good.
When the Dragonzord and Turtle-Zord went up against Krang’s Megazord, they held their own pretty well at first. But then, Krang brought out a giant plasma cannon-like weapon that unleashed an immensely powerful blast, nearly decimating both Zords right there on the spot. This super cannon wasn’t named in this issue, and only shot off this one blast, but it was so incredibly devastating that it must be marked down as one of the strongest weapons used by the Megazord in Power Rangers history. Zords are some of the strongest weapons in the galaxy themselves, without the use of other weapons at all given that they’re essentially ‘living’ weapons, yet this super cannon put them down like it was nothing.
Usually, the Megazord will have a massive sword and battle any given giant monster hand-to-hand. While it’s not unheard of for a Megazord to have a giant firearm of some kind by any means, it’s simply not the norm. However, after seeing this weapon in action, perhaps it should be, as TMNT’s Krang gives the Power Rangers’ ‘90s Megazord a deadly new upgrade.
