The Bad Guys cast featured some pretty big names and recognizable faces in the voice roles for the DreamWorks animated film. Much like previous DreamWorks movies like Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon, The Bad Guys features a credible pool of talent among its cast members. Some of them have more experience as voice actors while others have a long list of live-action performances to their names. However, everyone involved was still able to bring something to the table, either way.
The Bad Guys was based on the graphic novel series of the same name by Aaron Blabey. The titular “bad guys” are a group of anthropomorphic animal thieves who are caught on a heist gone wrong. The gang is spared from incarceration when they’re given a chance to reform their criminal ways, although they’re mostly just pretending to reform, so it’ll be easier for them to keep committing crimes. The major characters in The Bad Guys cast delivered performances that made these evildoers sympathetic enough that fans were cheering for them to go straight by the end.
Sam Rockwell As Mr. Wolf
Sam Rockwell voices Mr. Wolf in The Bad Guys cast — the leader of the gang and the protagonist of the film. Mr. Wolf was the leader of the gang of thieves, and he always had a plan for everything. This fits Rockwell perfectly, as he has mastered similar roles in the past. It was easy to see a link between Mr. Wolf and someone like Justin Hammer from Iron Man 2 but with a redemptive end. Rockwell won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Jason Dixon in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. He also voiced Vic Reynolds in F is for Family and played his most evil role in the Stephen King adaptation, The Green Mile.
Marc Maron As Mr. Snake
Marc Maron voices Mr. Snake in The Bad Guys cast, a sarcastic safecracker, and Mr. Wolf’s second-in-command. Mr. Snake was an extremely important character in the movie, as it was his relationship with Mr. Wolf that led to his dark turn and eventual redemption in the end. Most of Maron’s past work has been in comedy, but it was nice to see him turning in a role that made Mr. Snake both slimy and slightly sympathetic. Maron played a fictionalized version of himself in the show Maron. He also co-starred as Sam Sylvia in the Netflix series GLOW and took on a real bad guy role in DC League of Super-Pets as Lex Luthor.
Anthony Ramos As Mr. Piranha
Anthony Ramos voices Mr. Piranha in The Bad Guys cast, the muscle of the gang. The character was mostly used for laughs in the movie, and while he didn’t have as many speaking lines as others, each of them was memorable — a trait that Ramos also shares when it comes to live-action roles. Ramos played both John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in Hamilton, and his performance earned him a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award following the release of the live stage recording to Disney+. Ramos also starred in A Star is Born and In the Heights, and he has major roles in both Marvel’s Ironheart and is the male human lead in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
Craig Robinson As Mr. Shark
Craig Robinson voices Mr. Shark in The Bad Guys cast, the gang’s master of disguise. Mr. Shark was clearly the comic relief in the movie and that made Robinson a perfect voice actor since he has based his entire career on comedy. Two of Robinson’s most notable roles are Darryl Philbin on The Office and Doug Judy on NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Robinson has also starred in comedies ranging from This Is the End and Hot Tub Time Machine to Morris from America, which earned him an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male. In 2022, he also got a leading role in the Peacock comedy series, Killing It.
Awkwafina As Ms. Tarantula
Awkwafina voices Ms. Tarantula in The Bad Guys cast, the gang’s expert hacker. While Ms. Tarantula was mostly a side character, she was still an important part of the gang and got her own fan-favorite girl power moment with Diane Foxington during the explosive climax. Awkwafina co-created and stars in Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens and has also starred in Ocean’s 8, Crazy Rich Asians. She has recently picked up some major roles in Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, and the live-action Little Mermaid remake. For voice acting, Awkwafina also voiced Sisu in Raya and the Last Dragon.
Richard Ayoade As Rupert Marmalade
Richard Ayoade voices Prof. Rupert Marmalade IV in The Bad Guys cast, a philanthropist who tries to get the gang to reform. Rupert is the villain of The Bad Guys cast, and Ayoade was a great casting thanks to his experience as a voice actor in animated movies. While Ayoade is best known for playing Maurice Moss on The IT Crowd, for which he won the 2014 BAFTA for Best Male Comedy Performance, he has also voiced characters in Soul, The Boxtrolls, Early Man, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, and Disenchantment.
Zazie Beetz As Diane Foxington
Zazie Beetz voices Diane Foxington in The Bad Guys cast, the governor who takes a personal interest in the gang’s attempts to reform. Diane was the big twist in The Bad Guys ending, as it turns out the governor is a reformed villain who decides to help the Bad Guys clear their name by using her specialized skill set. Beetz was a nice casting, since she has experience in superhero movies, appearing as Domino in Deadpool 2, voicing Amber in Prime Video’s Invincible, and co-starring as Sophie in Joker. She is also best known for playing Vanessa on Atlanta, a role that earned her a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award.
The Bad Guys Supporting Cast & Characters
Alex Borstein As Misty Luggins — Alex Borstein voices chief of police Misty Luggins in The Bad Guys cast, a woman who has an obsession with bringing down The Bad Guys. Borstein was a cast member on MADtv and stars as Susie Myerson on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. For voice acting, Borstein is best known for voicing Lois Griffin on FOX’s Family Guy.
Lilly Singh As Tiffany Fluffit — Lilly Singh voices local news reporter Tiffany Fluffit in The Bad Guys cast, a mostly minor role in the supporting cast. Singh started out on YouTube, with the channel “IISuperwomanII” and was one of the highest-paid YouTubers in 2016. Singh was also the host of the late-night talk show A Little Late with Lilly Singh, making her the first person of Indian descent to host an American late-night show on a major network.
