Scream VI star Jasmin Savoy Brown wants to explore a more confident Mindy in Scream 7. Mindy Meeks-Martin fills the role established by her uncle, Randy Meeks, as the horror movie aficionado. She understands and explains the rules of the genre to the other Ghostface targets, but takes it a step further by breaking down the rules of a requel in Scream (2022) and franchises in Scream VI. Mindy’s instincts, especially in Scream VI, about whom to be suspicious of prove to be correct.
In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant to promote Scream VI’s digital and home release, Brown shared what she wants to explore in a potential Scream 7. She explained how Mindy needs to follow her instincts when it comes to possible killers after Scream VI, and that she wants to explore Mindy stepping into more of a leadership role. Check out Brown’s full quote and interview below:
Jasmin Savoy Brown: I think it would be interesting if we’re a couple years into the future and she’s more confident. I feel like a theme of six for Mindy was she was right about so much, but she kept undercutting herself and gas lighting and doubting herself. I would like to see her own she knows what she knows, and if she has an inkling about someone that she’s like, “We don’t talk to them,” and to see her step more into that leadership aspect of herself, and to see who she is just a couple years from now would be really interesting to me.
How Mindy Could Play A Bigger Role In Scream 7
Although there hasn’t been confirmation, Scream 7 seems inevitable given the massive box-office success of Scream VI and the continued popularity of the franchise. Scream VI saw each of the core four grow, with Mindy becoming more open with a girlfriend and becoming more mature. However, she hasn’t quite grown the confidence to make her friends take her knowledge seriously, as they shrug off her monologue. The problem is that Mindy’s suspicions of both Quinn and Ethan prove accurate.
Scream 7 could see Mindy grow in confidence, pushing to be taken seriously by the others about whom they need to be suspicious. This evolution could develop a new side of the character beyond the self-aware horror fan. Sam Carpenter is a very different hero than Sydney Prescott, grappling with her own inner darkness and the legacy of her father, Billy Loomis. Mindy could evolve beyond the role of horror expert, taking on a more investigative and leadership role.
Sam has taken on the role of protector, but Mindy could take on a different type of leadership role. Mindy using her knowledge to dictate how the core four handle outsiders, who to be suspicious of, who to avoid, and how to figure out who is targeting them could show a more practical use for her horror knowledge and weave it further into the movie. Mindy as the self-aware character is one of the most crucial pieces of the Scream franchise, but having her evolve into a leader within the core four after Scream VI will help her step out of Randy’s shadow in Scream 7.
