If Michelle Yeoh’s Star Trek: Section 31 movie involves time travel, it could delve into the very origins of the shadowy organization, which would mean a visit to Star Trek: Enterprise‘s era. In Section 31, Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh returns as Emperor Philippa Georgiou, the dangerous ex-despot of the Mirror Universe she played in Star Trek: Discovery seasons 1-3. Georgiou joined Section 31 in Discovery season 2, and the upcoming Paramount+ original, made-for-streaming movie promises to make the Emperor face the sins of her past.
Emperor Georgiou is no stranger to time travel and reality jumping. As she was about to be overthrown from her role as absolute ruler of the Mirror Universe’s Terran Empire in Star Trek: Discovery season 1, Georgiou followed Commander Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) to Star Trek’s Prime Timeline. Georgiou helped end the Klingon War of 2256/2257 before she joined Section 31 and helped the USS Discovery stop the rogue A.I. Control from committing universal genocide. Georgiou joined Burnham and Discovery’s one-way trip to the 32nd century, but she learned that she was dying from crossing universes and timelines. However, the Guardian of Forever (Paul Guilfoyle) judged the Emperor to have significantly changed enough to send her to a different era that wouldn’t kill her.
Michelle Yeoh’s Star Trek Movie Could Show Section 31’s 22nd Century Origin
Evidently, wherever the Guardian of Forever sends Emperor Georgiou puts her right back into the crosshairs of Section 31. It’s possible, however, that rather than merely perform clandestine missions for the agency, Georgiou’s ultimate mission may be to either take control of Section 31 or possibly even put an end to the organization. But perhaps this could entail Philippa learning the secrets of how Section 31 began, which ties into the 22nd-century founding of the United Federation of Planets, i.e. the timeframe of Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) and Star Trek: Enterprise.
Section 31’s origins are a mystery, but the agency claims to be born from Article 14, Section 31 of the Starfleet charter which allowed for extraordinary measures to be taken in times of extreme threat. The Federation was formally founded in 2161, with the NX-01 Enterprise’s Jonathan Archer named as the first Federation President. But Section 31 is even older than the Federation, as it recruited Archer’s Enterprise crew member Malcolm Reed (Dominic Keating) years before they served together on the NX-01 starship. Could Georgiou travel back to this era when Section 31 originated?
Section 31’s Origin Could Be A Stealth Star Trek: Enterprise Sequel
If Star Trek: Section 31 involves time travel to the 22nd century, it could be the best way to incorporate legacy characters from Star Trek: Enterprise. Archer’s era has seen incursions from the future already, such as Daniels (Matt Winston), a temporal agent from the 31st century. It’s possible Emperor Georgiou travels back to the 22nd-century timeframe when Section 31 is still either forming or integrating itself into the founding of the United Federation of Planets. In Star Trek: Discovery‘s 23rd century, Section 31 claimed to be a division of Starfleet Intelligence, but the agency went underground so that nearly no one knew of its existence in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine‘s late 24th century. Georgiou could investigate all of Section 31’s dirty secrets throughout time in her movie.
Meanwhile, Georgiou and Section 31 visiting Star Trek: Enterprise‘s era could finally bring back Scott Bakula as Jonathan Archer and other characters, such as T’Pol (Jolene Blalock), Malcolm Reed, Hoshi Sato (Linda Park), and Travis Mayweather (Anthony Montgomery). Section 31 could even retcon the controversial death of Trip Tucker (Connor Trinneer). Star Trek fans are holding out hope that an aged T’Pol will appear in the 23rd-century-set Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, but Michelle Yeoh’s Star Trek: Section 31 movie jumping back to the 22nd century could allow Star Trek: Enterprise‘s legacy characters one more moment in the spotlight.
