American Idol Top 5 finalist Wé Ani was eliminated from the competition one week before the finale, but she has announced that she has a new song coming out soon. Wé surprised and impressed judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan at her audition when she sang “Anyone” because her soulful singing voice didn’t match her high-pitched speaking voice. Wé continued to dominate the competition with her Hollywood Week performances of her original song “Good For,” which got the whole audience singing along, and her jazzy duet with PJAE on “Hit ‘Em Up Style (Oops)!,” which even featured scatting.
In an Instagram post after her American Idol elimination, Wé announced that “this is only the beginning” because she and record producer Oak Felder have a new song coming out on Friday, May 19.
Wé wrote, “SURPRISE!!! And you guys will see me next week for more special surprises!!” Wé is referring to the American Idol finale, during which the eliminated contestants will return for exciting performances. American Idol Season 21’s Top 3 finalists Megan Danielle, Iam Tongi, and Colin Stough will compete for America’s votes in order to be crowned the next winner.
Wé Ani Is Proud Of The American Idol Top 5
Wé began her post by writing, “I am blessed and in high spirits! Thank you to everyone who supported, voted, and cheered me on! I wouldn’t trade this experience for the world because I’ve learned so much about myself.” She praised her fellow American Idol Top 5 finalists Colin, Megan, Iam, and Zachariah Smith, who was also eliminated, writing, “I’m so beyond proud of my fellow contestants. That’s family fr!” Wé concluded her post by saying, “Although I didn’t win the competition, I in no way feel like I’ve lost! Who’s ready to keep on this ride with me? I love you guys so so so so much.”
Wé’s American Idol elimination was shocking because she was such a bright light throughout the competition. She was unique and extraordinarily talented, bringing her own style to every song she sang. She was a powerhouse singer, taking on songs such as “Edge of Midnight (Midnight Sky Remix),” “Skyfall,” “This Is Me,” “Something’s Got a Hold on Me,” “I Have Nothing,” “Uninvited,” “Into the Unknown,” and “The Climb.” Wé proved that she could hold her own singing songs from some of the greatest performers of all time, including Stevie Nicks, Miley Cyrus, Adele, Etta James, Whitney Houston, Alanis Morissette, and Idina Menzel.
Although Wé didn’t win American Idol, she has already had great success. Her single “Disgusted” has over 1.2 million Spotify streams. Her new song will most likely also do very well, since Wé has such a large fan following from American Idol and from when she placed third during The Voice season 11. She was a breath of fresh air on the show, bringing something new and different to the American Idol stage. Wé is a very talented singer with a beautiful personality, and this is only the beginning for her.
The American Idol season 21 finale airs Sunday, May 21 at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
