This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.
2023 is shaping up to be another exciting year for video game releases after the banner year that was 2022. The year has already featured highly-anticipated new titles like Hogwarts Legacy, remasters of beloved classics like Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4, and long-awaited sequels like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the follow-up to Breath of the Wild. Of course, some games haven’t received exact release dates just yet, only having a window of 2023, with more details expected to come as the year continues.
Although developers have caught up fairly well following the extensive delays rooted in the pandemic, there were still some titles originally slated for 2022 that were pushed into 2023 for one reason or another. Most delays are ultimately a good thing in the long run, as it’s strongly preferable for a game to release with extra polish than come out following a rush. It’s still possible that some of the titles below are delayed beyond their given months or into 2024 (as is the case with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Ark 2), but for now these are all the video game release dates for 2023.
January
January 2023 started off strong for video game releases, featuring standouts like two Persona remasters on the same day and Fire Emblem Engage the very next. January also saw the release of the fantasy parkour title Forspoken, the vibrant new SpongeBob title, The Cosmic Shake, and a strong adaption in One Piece Odyssey.

March
In March 2023, PC players finally got the chance to enjoy everything new in The Last of Us Part 1, a remake of the 2013 classic. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, another Soulslike from Team Ninja recieved positive reviews, and Tchia showed itself to be a delightful and tropical journey. The standout game release of March 2023 was, however, the remake of Resident Evil 4.

April
Hogwarts Legacy landed on PS4 and Xbox One at the beginning of April, leaving only the Switch left for release, which will follow near the end of the year. However, April 2023’s video game slate was dominated by a number of high-profile games, including Horizon Forbidden West‘s Burning Shores DLC, strategy spin-off Minecraft Legends, mindless and gory Dead Island 2, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which continues the journey of Cal Kestis and the Stinger Mantis crew following 2019’s Fallen Order.

May
By far the biggest game release of May 2023 is The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the extremely anticipated sequel to Breath of the Wild. Most other AAA games have made way for the Nintendo flagship title, including the again-delayed Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Near the end of the month, however, curiosities include The Lord of the Rings: Gollum and the long-awaited remake of System Shock.

July
Video game releases for July 2023 are so far a bit sparse, though longtime fans will be eagerly awaiting Pikmin 4. Oxenfree 2 is also likely to draw some attention as a rather notable indie release following the first game’s success. Additionally, Capcom is returning to the dino-fighting genre with Exoprimal, something of a spiritual successor to Dino Crisis.

In the midst of a lengthy early access period, Baldur’s Gate 3 was finally set for its full release at the end of August 2023, though it won’t be coming to Xbox just yet. The other marquee release of the month is perhaps Armored Core 6, which seems to have an unprecedented excitement for the series after developer FromSoftware released the smash hit Elden Ring in 2022.

October
At the time of writing, there are no games announced with October release dates. This will be updated as more information becomes available.
November
Hogwarts Legacy will see its final release in November 2023 on the Switch, barring any more delays. The only other video game release set for the month so far is The Day Before, a survival MMO with a fair bit of controversy surrounding odd gameplay demonstrations, apparent copying of a Call of Duty trailer, and a lawsuit.
December
Though unconfirmed, STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, recently renamed to remove Russian spelling, seems to be aiming for a 2023 release still, with its Steam page indicating December as the goal. At the time of writing, though, there are no other games announced with December release dates. This will be updated as more information becomes available.
TBD 2023 Video Game Release Dates
Despite the already incredible line-up of games with firm dates in 2023, a vast number of games are still expected to hit retailers before the year is out. Rumors suggest Assassins Creed Mirage will arrive sometime around October, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is expected to continue the remake trilogy in the winter months, a Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 voice actor may have leaked a September 2023 release date, and Hollow Knight: Silksong still has a chance to finally see the light of day before 2024. There are, however, many more video games expected to release in 2023 that don’t have an official launch window:
2023 is already shaping up to be another great year of video game releases. Hogwarts Legacy, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom have already made significant waves. By the end of the year, players will have also recieved the likes of Diablo 4, Baldur’s Gate 3, Final Fantasy 16, and many more.
