Warning! Contains Spoilers for DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #8!Every superhero has a tragic origin, but Supergirl‘s life has been harder than most, and surprisingly her happy ending just came from one of DC’s darkest universes. While everyone else lost loved ones or their own lives to DCeased‘s Anti-Life virus, Supergirl was reunited with her long-lost family.
The DCeased universe is one of the darkest realities that DC has ever explored, with a zombie virus running rampant and infecting heroes and villains alike. Millions of people lost their lives and millions more were infected but despite this, Supergirl was able to find her happy ending. While Supergirl was infected by the Anti-Life virus, she was saved by the new Justice League. Not only was she saved, but she managed to reunite with her parents, who’d secretly been stored within the lost city of Kandor by Brainiac, and are recovered by the upgraded Cyborg. This means that in DCeased, a galaxy-wide zombie apocalypse actually reunites Supergirl with her assumed-dead parents. All of this was seen in DCeased: War of the Undead God’s #8 by Tom Taylor, Trevor Hairsine, Lucas Meyer, and Andy Lanning.
Supergirl Is Reunited With Her Parents
Originally, Kara escaped Krypton with Superman, intending to watch over the baby Kal-El as he grew up, but due to her ship getting stuck in a black hole, she was displaced in time, arriving on Earth a few decades after Clark. Her DCeased backstory is a little different, instead of being sent to Earth like Clark, Zor-El sends her to New Genesis to be among Gods, which Zor-El thought was more fitting for her. Unfortunately, the New Gods are already undead by the time Kara arrives on New Genesis. Kara is quickly captured and infected shortly after arriving, remaining a slave to the virus until she’s cured and gets her happy ending. But this happy ending could only happen in DC’s darkest universe because, in the main one, her family hasn’t been so lucky.
Supergirl’s Happy Ending Avoids Her Mainstream Tragedy
In the Pre-New 52 timeline, Kara’s parents were also trapped in the city of Kandor when Brainiac stole it, just like in the DCeased universe. It took years for Superman to figure out how to free the City of Kandor from Brainiac’s collection, and when he finally did, it led to even more problems. Suddenly unleashing thousands of Kryptonians on Earth was not a choice everyone was happy with. While the new Kryptonians tried to settle into life on their new planet, conflict arose. During an attack on Kandor by Lex Luthor, using Brainiac’s drones, Kara’s father was killed trying to defend the city. Kara’s mother then became significantly darker due to the loss of her husband, which put a strain on their relationship. Eventually, Kara’s mother would also die during the War of the Supermen story arc.
Kara Holds Her Dying Father In Her Arms
Kara’s life has not been easy, she has lost tons of friends and family and unlike Clark, Supergirl actually lived on Krypton and knows what it means to have lost her entire culture. In the main universe, she lost both of her parents to war, and despite having power she couldn’t save them. But in one of the most hopeless universes DC has ever shown, Kara is able to reunite with her family and because of it, fans who love Supergirl get to see her finally achieve a seemingly impossible happy ending.
