In a recent performance with his band, Tom Sandoval from Vanderpump Rules revealed that he is taking a bit of a break from alcohol and is now one month sober. This break from alcohol came after his heavily publicized cheating scandal where he has been dragged through the mud a bit by many publications for his actions. He also went on Howie Mandel’s podcast and gave a bizarre interview that resulted in more backlash against the reality TV star.
According to a video from TMZ, Tom was seen with his band Tom Sandoval & The Most Extras telling the crowd he is one month sober as he drank a Heineken 0.0. “It’s been one month since I’ve had my last drink of alcohol, I’m just taking a little break for a second,” he admitted. Tom proceeded to say cheers to his fans with his non-alcoholic beverage before continuing on with his set. The lifestyle change comes two months after Tom split from his longtime girlfriend Ariana Madix. The two broke up because it came out that Tom was having an affair with Raquel Leviss, another star of Vanderpump Rules.
VPR Star Tom Sandoval’s Sobriety Comes After Huge Cheating Scandal
Tom‘s announcement onstage was met with cheers and support from the fans in the audience as they continued on with the show. While there could be many factors that influenced his decision to become sober, even if just for a little while, it is likely that the cheating scandal probably had something to do with it. The whole scandal ended up being dubbed “Scandoval, and Tom definitely took a beating in the press. Raquel also took her fair share of the blame for the whole thing. Neither of them came out from the situation unscathed, that is for sure.
Becoming sober after going through extreme public scrutiny would not be an easy thing to do, so it is probably good for Tom that he is taking this time, away from vices, to clear his head and focus on what he needs to do moving forward. It would appear that Tom and Raquel might not be together anymore, as he proceeded to name-drop her in one of the songs that they covered. Only time will tell if the two are really going to stay together. Whether they are end game or not doesn’t discredit the fact that Tom did cheat on Ariana, and he could have gone about the entire thing in a better way.
Since admitting to his mistakes, Tom has kept it relatively quiet on social media. Since publishing his apology and explanation, he has only made two posts, with all the comments turned off. It can be a difficult situation to experience in general, let alone with the media and reality TV fans watching their every move. Hopefully, sobriety is able to help Tom find a clearer path and make better decisions going forward that hurt fewer people around him. While he never blamed alcohol for any of his decisions or anything like that, it certainly wouldn’t have helped the scenario in any way.
Vanderpump Rules airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EDT on Bravo.
