The Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kim Zolciak and her former husband and NFL star Kroy Biermann allegedly owe the IRS over $1 million in unpaid taxes. It is said that the taxes have been building up for over a decade. This comes after their country club mansion that was heavily featured on RHOA was reportedly foreclosed on in February, though Kim denied these rumors. In the midst of all this, Kim and Kroy are ending their marriage after 11 years.
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, it has been shown that Kim and Kroy owe the IRS $1.1 million in unpaid taxes and interest in penalties. These different fees are from 2013, 2017, and 2018. The couple also owed the State of Georgia from back in 2018 another $15,000. While their home has possibly been foreclosed, it would appear that the family is still posting photos from the home, so it has not been secured by the authorities just yet. TMZ also reported that Kim filed for divorce from Kroy, adding even more layers to this complicated relationship.
RHOA’s Kim Zolciak Previously Asked For Donations From Fans
This news may or may not come as a shock to RHOA fans, who have followed the couple’s lavish lifestyle on and off the screen. The couple is known for their extravagant spending, including their multimillion-dollar Atlanta mansion, which is frequently showcased on RHOA. It is worth noting that this is not the first time the couple has faced financial trouble. In 2018, they owed money to Georgia for their house, but it appears that the debt was paid off. It is unclear if this new tax lien is related to the previous debt or if it is a completely separate issue.
There have been rumors of Kim having money issues for a while now after she added a donation link to her Instagram bio in late 2021. Once the money issue rumors began, she quickly removed the link and denied that she was struggling financially in any way. It seemed like a strange thing to do, asking for donations to support her financially if she was not in need of the money. After leaving sports in 2021, Kroy has had his fair share of financial struggles aired out in the press as well. He had to pay off debts to former sports agents at one point.
It is clear that Kim and Kroy’s financial situation is causing a stir in the reality TV world and beyond. Only time will tell how the couple will address the situation and if they will be able to pay off their outstanding debts before their home possibly goes into foreclosure and they actually have to vacate it. Going forward, with news of the divorce, as well as their financial struggles, hopefully, Kim and Troy are able to get everything sorted out for the sake of their children and their own well-being and happiness.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta airs Sundays at 8 p.m. EDT on Bravo.
