While Shiv seemed to have a pretty good chance of winning going into Succession season 4, Succession season 4, episode 7 has proven that Lukas Matsson destroyed her chances of winning. Succession has been a constant power struggle between the Roys, and now that Logan is gone, Kendall, Roman, and Shiv have been fighting harder than ever. Although Shiv didn’t get the CEO position at Waystar Royco, she had a new plan in which she wanted to play both sides of the GoJo deal. However, Succession season 4, episode 7 proves that this has backfired horribly, possibly costing Shiv her chances of winning.
Succession season 4 is the final season of HBO’s critically acclaimed comedy-drama, with it following the Roy family as they attempt to run Waystar Royco. Succession season 4 has already been a wild ride, with it featuring twists, turns, and massive reveals, including the death of Logan Roy in episode 3. Succession season 4, episode 7 sees an election tailgating party being held at Shiv and Tom’s penthouse, although a wrench is thrown into things when Lukas Matsson unexpectedly shows up. Luckily for Shiv, she’s been playing both sides, but she quickly learns that her plan isn’t going as well as she had hoped.
Matsson Played Shiv In Succession – And Has Really Hurt Her Future
Although Shiv thought she was playing everyone, it turns out that Lukas Matsson actually played Shiv. Succession season 4, episode 7 proves that Matsson has betrayed Shiv, keeping her in the dark about GoJo’s intentionally inflated growth numbers. This revelation has thrown GoJo’s acquisition of Waystar Royco into chaos, giving Kendall and Roman the ammo they need to fight the deal. Rather than attempting to work her way up Waystar Royco, Shiv has been getting close with Matsson, hoping to get a role in the company after the merger. However, this plan has severely hurt her future.
Shiv’s plan to get close to Matsson involved leaking confidential details to him, allowing GoJo to always stay one step ahead of Waystar Royco. However, this could become her biggest liability, as Matsson can use Shiv’s disloyalty to Waystar Royco as leverage against her. Kendall or Roman finding out about Shiv’s plan would almost certainly lead to her being shut out of the company, and now that the GoJo merger is going downhill, she probably won’t have a place at Matsson’s company either. Shiv thought she was on top of things, but it looks like she might now be the lowest person in Succession season 4’s power rankings.
Shiv Put Matsson Before Tom, And Everyone Has Lost Because Of It
Shiv’s Lukas Matsson plan has hurt more than her career, as it has also damaged her relationship with Tom. Although things were starting to mend between the couple after Tom’s Succession season 3 betrayal, Shiv has put Matsson before Tom in recent episodes, causing the rift between the two to grow. Succession season 4, episode 7 ends with an incredibly heated argument between Shiv and Tom, the likes of which haven’t been seen before. The root of this argument comes back to Shiv’s Lukas Matsson plan, with the complicated love triangle and business dynamics making everything worse.
Shiv’s plan has also had a domino effect, with it causing everyone in Succession to lose. At the party, Shiv and Matsson strategically tell the guests that Tom may be fired from Waystar Royco after the merger, which is news to Tom. Being kicked out of the company obviously wasn’t part of Tom’s plan, but because of Shiv it now might happen. Shiv’s plan has also hurt Matsson, as her decision to keep Matsson’s secrets led to Ebba not getting the relief she needed, causing her to spill about GoJo’s schemes. Because of this, Kendall and Roman now know about Matsson’s inflated subscriber numbers, making a bad situation even worse.
Can Shiv Still Win In Succession Season 4?
Although things seem worse than ever for Shiv, it’s possible that she could still win in Succession season 4. As Tom points out, Shiv’s sharp business mind and strong connections mean that she will always end up in a comfortable position, and this could happen again after the fallout of the GoJo deal. Even if Waystar Royco is upset with Shiv, she is still the sister of the company’s co-CEOs, meaning that she’ll probably end up with a Waystar Royco job. So, even if Shiv isn’t the CEO at the end of Succession season 4, she’ll probably still have moved up in the business world.
