It‘s Pennywise the Clown becomes a cat in some deeply disturbing AI-generated art. Introduced in Stephen King’s 1986 horror novel, the creepy clown has graced the screen multiple times, played by Tim Curry in the 1990 miniseries and Bill Skarsgård in the recent film duology directed by Andy Muschietti. Pennywise is perhaps King’s most popular and prolific villain, playing a larger role in the author’s overarching multiverse, who is able to inspire fear in his victims no matter what form he takes.
Some recent AI art shared by u.n.i.v.e.r.s.e.a.i on Instagram imagines Pennywise the Clown as a cat, and the result is very creepy. Check it out below:
Pennywise takes on many different forms in the miniseries, Muschietti’s movies, and King’s book – most famously the classic Universal monsters – but never a cat. However, King did once write a cat-centric horror movie, 1985’s Cat’s Eye, based on his own short stories.
Will Pennywise Return In Welcome To Derry?
HBO Max is currently developing Welcome To Derry, a prequel series to Muschietti’s It movies. Though no plot details have been confirmed yet, it is rumored to be set in the 1960s and provide an origin story for Pennywise leading up to the events of the first It film. While It Chapter Two alluded to Pennywise’s origin story, it largely remains a mystery how the creature came to be. In addition to Pennywise, Welcome To Derry is also expected to explore its titular town’s haunted past.
While Pennywise’s origin story is expected to be a focus in Welcome To Derry, the character won’t be played by Skarsgård, who has said he’s not currently involved in the project. Instead, the prequel series will likely recast a younger actor. So far, the Welcome To Derry cast includes Taylour Paige (Zola), Jovan Adepo (Watchmen), Chris Chalk (Godzilla vs. Kong), and James Remar (Dexter) in undisclosed roles. Only time will tell if Pennywise returns and what forms he takes on in the It prequel show.
