Succession season 4, episode 6 is out now, and here are the six biggest story reveals and Waystar Royco twists that the episode features. Succession season 4 has already been a wild ride, with the show already dropping all kinds of bombshells in the first half of its final season. Things are only getting more exciting in Succession season 4, episode 6, however, as the episode changes the future of Succession in several major ways.
Succession season 4 is the final season of HBO’s beloved comedy-drama series, with it finally wrapping up the story of the Roy family and their massive multimedia empire, Waystar Royco. Leading up to now, Succession season 4 has already killed off Logan Roy, the main antagonist of the series, leaving the CEO position vacant. Kendall and Roman Roy are now co-CEOs of the company, and things are not going well. Succession season 4, episode 6 picks up less than a week after the death of Logan, with Kendall and Roman still attempting to manage the GoJo deal as well as heading into their first investor day meeting.
Kendall Presents Life Plus To Drive Up WayStar’s Share Price (& Kill The Matsson Deal)
The main conflict in Succession season 4, episode 6 revolves around Life Plus, a new real estate development that is being helmed by Waystar Royco. Kendall describes Life Plus as combining safety, entertainment, and health, over hyping the new venture to the point where it is obviously impossible. The idea behind Life Plus isn’t to actually launch the product, but instead to drive up Waystar Royco’s share price. The company is in the midst of being bought out by GoJo CEO Lukas Matsson, something that Kendall wants out of. By announcing Life Plus, Kendall hopes to drive up the stock price and cause Matsson to back out, killing the deal.
Lukas Matsson sees right through Kendall’s plan, telling Shiv that he isn’t interested in real estate development. However, Kendall still goes through with it, although the effects of Waystar Royco’s stock are still unknown. Kendall clearly isn’t paying attention to how his scheme is affecting Waystar, as it could do some serious damage in the future. Kendall lies about his father’s wishes and raises financial projections to the point where they are near impossible to meet, causing conflict within the company. Waystar Royco is on the brink of disaster, but Kendall doesn’t see it coming.
Shiv Sleeps With Tom & Is Torn Between Him And Matsson
Shiv and Tom’s relationship has been struggling since Tom’s big Succession season 3 betrayal, but things seem to be turning around. The couple actually slept together in Succession season 4, episode 6, something that hasn’t happened in a long while. The two are incredibly flirty and seem to be getting their relationship back on track, but there is one problem: Lukas Matsson. Shiv and Matsson have started developing a relationship since Succession season 4, episode 5, meaning that Shiv is torn between the two. Shiv has strong romantic and business reasons to go with either Tom or Matsson, something that will continue to play into Succession‘s future.
Roman Fires Joy & Gerri (But Wants To Walk It Back)
The power of the co-CEO position is starting to get to Roman’s head, causing him to make some big moves in Succession season 4, episode 6. Roman’s first decision is to fire Joy, one of the heads of Waystar Studios, the film and television division of Waystar Royco. This firing quickly becomes disastrous, with Joy lawyering up after getting the news. Things only get worse though when Gerri starts getting on to Roman for firing Joy, causing Roman to fire Gerri in retaliation. Roman later asks Kendall to walk these firings back, but Kendall refuses, actually supporting the idea that the new co-CEOs should clean out the higher management positions.
Matsson’s Tweet Jeopardizes The WayStar Deal (& His Reputation)
Despite it clearly being a bad idea, Kendall’s Life Plus is met with a surprisingly warm reception during the investor day meeting. However, things quickly take a bad turn when Hugo sees Lukas Matsson’s response to the announcement on Twitter. Alongside a promotional picture of Life Plus, Matsson wrote the caption “Doderick Macht Frei,” derived from the slogan that was on the entrance gate of the Auschwitz I concentration camp.
It seems as if Matsson was trying to jokingly compare Waystar Royco’s company towns to concentration camps, but this Tweet went over horrendously. Kendall immediately denounced the Tweet from the stage, realizing it’s potential to jeopardize the Waystar-GoJo deal and most definitely hurt Lukas Matsson’s reputation. Matsson took the Tweet down after only a few minutes, meaning he knew that it was a bad idea right after it happened. It’s expected that the fallout from this incident will play into Succession season 4, episode 7, exploring Lukas Matsson’s damage control.
Logan Roy Returns In Succession Season 4 Episode 6 (Not How You’d Expect)
Although Logan Roy died in episode 3, the character actually makes a surprise return in Succession season 4, episode 6 in a pretty unexpected way. The beginning of the episode sees the Waystar team going through some archival footage of Logan while prepping for the investor day meeting. Later in the episode, it is revealed that Kendall secretly engrained this footage into his presentation, using edited clips of Logan to advertise Living Plus. Although the audience seemed to like it, Shiv, Roman, and the rest of the Waystar employees thought it was pretty gross, meaning that Kendall will probably face some backlash.
What Succession Season 4, Episode 6 Means For The Show’s Future
Succession season 4, episode 6 may not be as important as previous episodes on its surface, but it actually significantly changes the show’s future. The fallout from the investor day meeting and Lukas Matsson’s Tweet could not only significantly hurt the GoJo deal, but also Waystar Royco. Things definitely won’t be helped by the firing of Joy and Gerri as well as Kendall’s new beef with Karl, the CFO of Waystar Royco.
On top of that, the troubles at Waystar are starting to cause a rift between the three Roy siblings. The decision to tank the deal has already caused conflict between Kendall, Roman, and Shiv, doubling down on their already tense struggle for power. Kendall and Roman’s attempts to implement their father’s method of management are only making things worse, with the Roy siblings potentially bringing down Logan Roy’s empire by the end of Succession season 4.
