Some fights that players of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor are sure to remember are those with the Legendary Enemy, Rancor. Rancor will initially appear as a boss in an optional quest while on Koboh. The quest, Find The Missing Prospectors, is one that is suggested to Cal Kestis after speaking with a Prospector off to the right of the Rambler’s Reach Outpost Meditation Point.
If the quest is completed before speaking to her, Cal will inform her that it has already been done, so need to worry if Rancor is accidentally stumbled upon prior to meeting her. She will direct Cal to some nearby tunnels and after working through some minor enemies, Cal will drop into a small cavelike area where, unfortunately, Rancor is waiting.
Find The Missing Prospectors Rumor
From the Meditation Point near the prospector that starts this rumor mission, head for the Sodden Grotto, which will be up the vine wall and to the left. The path that leads to Rancor from there is down the pipe and through the entrance, after which just follow the path.
Battle the enemies along the way until reaching the area with the Sodden Grotto Meditation Point. The meditation point should be off to the right and the Rancor arena will be straight ahead. Be sure to go ahead and rest at the Meditation Point before dropping into the arena.
Rancor Fight Strategy & Tips
Rancor is one of the optional bosses many players may choose to avoid for good reason, but with a little patience and strategy, this fight can be turned in Cal’s favor. The first point of defense is going to be analyzing Rancor’s different types of attacks. One of the initial moves players will notice is a ground stomp that creates a sonic radius around it.
As expected, this can simply be jumped over or avoided as the radius for this attack is limited. In addition to the stomping, Rancor has a wide-sweeping attack for which jumping can also come in handy to avoid.
While being on the defensive for those things, now begin strategizing an attack. First and foremost, the Jedi: Survivor Double-Bladed Lightsaber Stance appears to be the most efficient in beating Rancor. Timing blocks is also going to be essential so learn the pattern of Rancor’s movements to do so efficiently.
Finally, since most of Rancor’s attacks are going to come head-on, trying to stay behind him as often as possible to target his back and tail is going to be the least risky option. However, if feeling brave, Cal can also get right up under Rancor and attack him from the front, but this leaves a lot of vulnerability.
It may be tedious, but by using these strategies, Rancor can be taken down. Once defeated, be sure to go grab the Jedi: Survivor Shatter Perk which is in Rancor’s arena. The Shatter Perk makes attacks more effective against breaking an enemy’s guard at the cost of two Perk slots.
Now head back to the prospector and let her know that unfortunately, all the other prospectors have perished, which she won’t be too entirely upset about. Finally, continue exploring the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor planet Koboh and keep these tips in mind when facing the second Rancor later in the game.
