New set videos from American Horror Story season 12 reveal that Cara Delevingne has been cast alongside Emma Roberts. Season 12 of the horror anthology series, entitled Delicate, began filming earlier this month. Alongside Delevingne and Roberts, American Horror Story franchise newcomers Kim Kardashian and The Resident star Matt Czuchry have also been cast in undisclosed roles. Delicate is expected to be released later this year.
In two new set videos posted to TikTok (via Splash News Official and New York Mickey), both Delevingne and Roberts can be seen filming American Horror Story season 12 in New York City.
Almost unrecognizable, Delevingne sports an all-black outfit with bright red boots, gloves, and sunglasses, smoking a cigarette as she examines something on the ground. Meanwhile, Roberts races into a subway station wearing a long coat, winter hat, and large sunglasses.
What Makes AHS: Delicate Different From Past Seasons
Aside from Roberts, an American Horror Story powerhouse who has appeared in five other seasons, the rest of the newly-announced cast will make their franchise debuts with season 12, including Delevingne. However, Delevingne and Czuchry’s casting have not been nearly as controversial as Kardashian’s, as the reality star appearing in Delicate has been considered stunt casting, and has been decried by American Horror Story alum Patti LuPone.
Unlike previous seasons, which have been entirely unique premises, the plot of Delicate is based on an upcoming novel by Danielle Valentine called Delicate Condition. The book follows “a woman who becomes convinced that a sinister figure is going to great lengths to make sure her pregnancy never happens,” and is expected to be released in August, around the same time or shortly before American Horror Story season 12 premieres.
With American Horror Story season 12 acting as a book adaptation and casting several new actors to the franchise, there is much curiosity in seeing how this break in tradition will play out. While some have seen Kardashian’s inclusion as a signal of the series’ decline, Delevingne’s arrival could be a potential saving grace, as she has steadily made a name for herself on television. However, with actors from previous seasons always making appearances in future ones, perhaps the fate of American Horror Story season 12 will be determined by those castings still yet to come.
