5 Reasons Sam Will Be Scream 7’s Ghostface Killer

Scream 7 may add in the craziest twist of all by making Scream‘s final girl Sam Carpenter the Ghostface killer. The Scream franchise has had a lot of shocking Ghostface killers, though Sam would be the most jaw-dropping. In the first Scream, Sidney seemed safe and protected by her boyfriend, so when Billy Loomis was revealed as the killer, along with Stu Maher, it was such a shocking reveal. Though, arguably the biggest twist was Scream 4, which seemingly set Sidney’s cousin Jill Roberts up as the new final girl, only to make her the Scream 4 Ghostface.

Scream 3 also had a shocking Ghostface reveal though it was more confusing than satisfying. Sidney’s illegitimate brother was Ghostface and revealed himself as the mastermind behind the previous Scream killings. This was certainly a surprise though it created more plot holes than excitement. There have been many theories that Sam will be Ghostface at some point in the franchise, and Scream 5 and Scream 6 have hinted at her potential to kill. Scream 7 would be the perfect time for Sam to come to terms with her true identity and take on the role of the Ghostface killer.

Scream 5 revealed Sam is Billy’s illegitimate daughter, and she regularly has visions of him talking to her throughout Scream 5 and Scream 6. If Billy can kill as many people as he did, his daughter is capable of it too. Sam has battled with her identity because of her relation to Billy; in several scenes, he’s tried to persuade her to be the killer too.

Sam has had to remain strong to fight off the dark thoughts .her deceased father keeps putting into her mind. However, the thoughts and her connection to Billy might become too strong for her to handle, and she could turn to the dark side and become the Ghostface killer in Scream 7.

4 Sam Expressed Violent Tendencies In Scream 5 & 6

At the end of Scream 5, Sam brutally stabs her boyfriend, Richie Kirsch, when he reveals himself as Ghostface. While her actions are excused as self-defense, since Richie was trying to kill her and her friends throughout the whole movie, Sam seems very passionate as she kills Richie. She stabs him seemingly more times than Ghostface has stabbed its victims. She even gets on top of him for her violent attack and then wipes her knife of blood when she’s finished similarly to Ghostface.

In Scream 6, Sam talks to her therapist about how she felt good about killing Richie, and she’s scared she might be just like her father. Sam’s sister Tara also worries about how much thrill Sam gets from murdering. When she and Tara defeat Detective Bailey at the film’s end, Sam expresses the same thrill as when she killed his son Richie. This time, Sam puts on the Ghostface costume, hinting at her future as Ghostface. She then stabs the detective the same way she stabbed Richie to death. Sam looks satisfied with her work, while her sister looks terrified, noticing what Sam is capable of.

3 Sam As Ghostface Would Be The Ultimate Game Changer For Scream 7

Scream has gone to great lengths to shock audiences with its Ghostface reveals. Scream 4 was a huge game-changer because it was the first Scream film in a decade and deceived fans, making them think Jill was the new generation’s final girl when she was Ghostface. Scream 6 was another game changer because there were three Ghostface killers when the most any film has had before was two.

Having Sam as Ghostface would be a bigger game-changer than the earlier films. It would be similar to Scream 4 but more shocking because fans have gotten to know Sam in Scream 5 and Scream 6. While she’s grappled with her identity, she remains the main final girl. And having a character who was innocent in the previous films become the villain is something Scream has never done. However, the franchise loves visiting untouched territory, and Sam and Scream 7‘s Ghostface would be the ultimate twist.

2 Sam As Ghostface Would Be A Major Betrayal To Scream 6’s Core Four

The core four of Scream 6

The best Ghostface killers have always been the ones that felt like the biggest betrayal. In Scream, Sidney thought she could trust her boyfriend Billy and their close friend Stu, so it was shocking when they were revealed as Ghostface. Sidney felt incredibly betrayed that the people she thought she could trust were out to kill her, and it was even worse when Billy admitted to being the one who actually killed her mom. Scream 4 was bad, too, since Jill was Sidney’s cousin, and having a family member trying to murder her is even more treacherous than her boyfriend.

Sam as Scream 7‘s Ghostface killer would knock the previous films out of the park. Sam has bonded with the core four as they’ve all been the ones to survive the first two killings. They’ve gotten close, and she and Tara have been a dynamic duo, leaning on each other to make it through the murders. If Sam were Ghostface, it would tear the group apart and be the ultimate betrayal. It would also make it hard for them to trust each other or anyone else in future Ghostface killings.

1 Sam As Ghostface Could Bring Sidney Back For Scream 7

Melissa Barrera as Sam Carpenter from Scream 6 with Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott from Scream 5

Sidney’s absence in Scream 6 officially passed the torch to Sam to be the new final girl. While fans of the franchise missed Sidney, Scream 6 still performed well, and its plot flowed perfectly, proving Sidney isn’t necessary for the franchise to continue. However, the franchise will need a new final girl if Sam is Ghostface. Tara is next in line as Scream 6 established her and Sam as final girls, but Scream 6 still didn’t focus as much on Tara as Sam.

Tara may not be able to carry the film alone, but filmmakers know that Sidney can carry it because she’s done it so many times. If Sam was Ghostface, Sidney could become the final girl again. She also would have to return because no one besides Gale knows how to fight off so many Ghostfaces. Sam would be a powerful Scream 7 Ghostface because Billy is her father, so the characters would need someone like Sidney to help. It would also take the franchise full circle since Sidney fought off Billy in the first film.
