Between catching up on schoolwork, helping their friends, and uncovering the truth behind ancient magic, players will find themselves quite busy during the events of Hogwarts Legacy, which may cause them to miss some of the game’s funniest NPC interactions. Some are certainly more common than others; for example, one particular knight statue hums a tune almost every time the student passes it by (much to the dismay of the statue next to it). However, it’s the rarest NPC interactions in Hogwarts Legacy that are often the funniest and most worth keeping an eye out for.
These small, yet hilarious animations provide a much-needed facelift to characters. Unfortunately, a lack of realism and immersion is a widespread issue throughout Hogwarts Legacy’s cast of NPCs – there are very few ways to interact with students, professors, or villagers apart from pre-determined side quests, and the lack of a true follower system can make it difficult to develop a liking for even Hogwarts Legacy‘s best companions. While the small, random NPC interactions don’t solve the primary problem at hand, they do help somewhat by making the game feel more alive and more inviting to explore.
7 Student Tormented By Dancing Socks
In Harry Potter, nearly every item is enchanted or bears some magical properties – but according to this hilarious NPC interaction in Hogwarts Legacy, seemingly not even socks are spared. As the player enters Gladrags in Hogsmeade, they have the chance to run into a mother and her Hufflepuff son, who is dancing involuntarily thanks to some thrifted socks. She dismisses her son’s rather justified complaints, claiming that he’s not dancing, but rather exercising, as his feet bounce up and down in a lively jig. Apparently, this is the second time he’s been subjected to the so-called “novelty” socks.
To make matters worse, a young child and their parent, who are sitting not too far, are commenting on the scene all the while. The child audibly points out the dancing Hufflepuff student to her father, asking him why he’s dancing and if charms can really come out in the wash. The father responds in a condescending tone, exclaiming that the mother would do anything to “avoid spending a Knut.” It’s no wonder why the socks came secondhand, but the player is bound to feel secondhand embarrassment for themselves as the student continues to tap dance away in front of Gladrags.
6 Student Snacking On Pepper Imps
Perhaps the less traumatizing Hogsmeade shop for students to visit is Honeydukes, which sells a variety of treats with some unforgettable side effects. It would seem that one Hogwarts Legacy NPC, in particular, has chosen to munch on a rather dangerous candy, though.
As the player explores the castle, they have a chance to run into a student who is breathing literal fire and blowing smoke out of their ears. This is likely the doing of some Pepper Imps, which are known for imposing such effects despite their cool, minty taste. Nearby NPCs seem to enjoy the show, but it’s a wonder they haven’t had their eyebrows singed off.
5 Ghost Couple With Relationship Issues
The ghosts and their lore in Hogwarts Legacy make them some of its most memorable inhabitants, who despite being dead bring plenty of life to the castle. However, it seems like one ghost is looking to put an end to the liveliness, as in random parts of the castle, the player may run into a female ghost relentlessly chasing a male ghost with an axe.
The latter, who has evidently done some wrong, profusely apologizes for his past actions and begs for forgiveness, but to no avail. Not even his ironic name, Eddie Cleaver, can apparently save this fellow from the threat of the sharp blade wielded by his vengeful partner.
4 Student Stuck In A Levitating Top Hat
Continuing the apparent trend of cursed clothing, one poor student finds himself in a situation similar to the Hufflepuff with the dancing socks – but his case is a bit more serious, making him one of the funniest Hogwarts Legacy NPCs the player can encounter. It’s unclear exactly how this character might have gotten his head stuck in a floating top hat, but it’s even less clear how he’ll be able to escape its grasp. He’ll frantically kick and wave his arms all while remaining completely silent, making him look like a puppet on strings.
3 Ghosts Playing A Game Of Decapitated Catch
If Hogwarts Legacy players choose to venture into Hogsmeade’s graveyard, they’ll find a rather morbid and funny sight. Once there, players have the opportunity to witness two ghosts playing a friendly game of catch with a decapitated head. As if that wasn’t disturbing enough, the severed cranium belongs to one of the game’s own participants, whose headless body tosses its own limb around without so much as a care in the world.
2 Niffler Escapee At Hogsmeade Station
On the surface, Hogsmeade Station is uninteresting; after all, it’s not possible to hop aboard the Hogwarts Express, and the locomotive rarely makes an appearance in-game. However, it’s worth stopping by for the chance to experience one of the cutest and funniest events in Hogwarts Legacy. Here, the player may stumble across a shady deal happening between two characters, one of which has a Niffler for sale in his Nabsack.
The poacher’s client is unimpressed, and he subsequently panics, trying to forcibly convince her to look inside his bag. Amidst all the chaos, the Niffler escapes the Nabsack, biting the ankles of the client and disappearing without a trace. The poacher has nothing left to say for himself, and the agitated witch storms off, calling him an amateur.
1 Secret Deathday Party Conversation
The funniest NPC interaction of all in Hogwarts Legacy is one most players never discover because it’s hidden well off the beaten path. In order to find this hilarious exchange, students will need to find and attend the Deathday Party, where quite a few ghosts are celebrating their own passing. However, one ghost’s primary concern is not his deathday, but winning the heart of his crush. His friends can be heard encouraging him to ask her to dance before another century passes, which finally spurs him to approach the lady.
She agrees, much to his relief – but in his excitement, the ghost forgets to put his head back on his shoulders. As the two dance elegantly across the gloomy banquet hall, he’ll continuously request that he takes a moment to collect his head, but his partner refuses to slow down. His body continues to dance with his newly-requited love while his severed head remains resting on a nearby table, unable to do anything but watch in Hogwarts Legacy‘s best NPC interaction.
