Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz have teamed up again, and will be sharing their second collaborative album, Welcome 2 Collegrove, on November 17th via Def Jam Recordings. Stream the lead single “Presha” below.
Spanning 21 tracks, Welcome 2 Collegrove is the follow-up to 2016’s ColleGrove, a project that was technically released as a 2 Chainz solo album, but was really a collaborative effort between the two rap icons, even getting its name from Chaniz’s hometown College Park, Georgia, and Lil Wayne’s Hollygrove, Louisiana. Now, the two are combining powers once more.
The single “Presha” demonstrates this, giving both rappers ample time to lay down extended verses. 2 Chainz begins, delivering lyrics like “I done fell in love with a thick bitch/ I done fell in love with a rich bitch,” and “When your friend call, say, ‘Hello, pressure speakin’’/ Towel under door, but the pressure reakin’.” Lil Wayne then jumps in with a fast-paced flow, dropping classic Wayne-esque lines like “I be puttin’ pressure on the plug/ I get treated special by the plug/ The feds puttin’ pressure on me/ But I don’t even sweat in hot tubs.” Watch the lyric video for the single below.
The announcement of Welcome 2 Collegrove comes after a period of activity for Wayne. In September, he shared the single “Kat Food,” followed by a performance at 2023 VMAs, and the release of a full album: The Fix Before Tha VI. The title is presumably a reference to Tha Carter VI, which Wayne said was “coming soon” in August 2022, but has yet to release any hard details for.
Meanwhile, Lil Wayne has a handful of live dates coming up in November and December. Check out his full list of upcoming shows below, and grab your tickets to see him here.
As for 2 Chainz, he’s been laying relatively low in recent years, but is booked to appear at this year’s iteration of Creepshow in River Bend, Missouri, on Saturday, October 28th (grab tickets here).
Pre-orders for Welcome to Collegrove are ongoing.
